Honeymooning in Ireland

Allie, on May 14, 2019 at 10:44 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 13

Anyone been to Ireland before? What time of year is the best time to go? Weather-wise mostly but also for costs.

I haven't been but my FIL's went this past October and said it was the most amazing place. They said the weather was pretty mild too. I also had a coworker who just went last week and she has traveled all over the world and said it still was absolutely incredible and one of the best places she has been. She said the weather was in the 60's-70's and sunny some days and then rainy other days but temperature wise very mild as well. I think fall or spring you probably can't go wrong if you're looking for not too hot/cold.

I've been to Ireland, and I loved it - MINUS the weather, lol. Honestly, it is a very rainy, chilly country year-round (words from the locals). We went in July, and while it was relatively warm (mid-60's, low 70's) it rained nearly every day. As for the cost, it really just depends where you go and what you like to do. The food is very affordable, but the beer and alcohol can add up quickly. If you're looking to sight-see, I also recommend doing so on your own to save some money, with some recommendations from the locals

We can't go this year until November, and I've been reading the weather isn't too great then, so we are thinking maybe April of next year.

Yeah, I know the weather will never be ideal. I've read the summer is the best time to go, but since it's peak season, the prices are higher. We really want to do some backpacking/exploring and hanging with the locals.

I think you would be good in April. She just went last week so early May and she did a lot of backpacking and outdoorsy activities and said the weather was great for that. Of course just pack accordingly for any rain/wind and I think you would be good to go.

I’ve been twice. November and August. I highly recommend August. We had some of the best weather I have ever seen in Ireland. Only rained once and wasn’t too chilly.

I went to Dublin in May a couple of years ago - the weather wasn't too bad! It rained a few times but we still had plenty of opportunities to be outside and enjoy the sunshine and mild temperatures.

I visited Ireland the first week of May last year and the weather was great! We might have just gotten lucky but it only rained one day while we were there. The weather was mostly sunny and 70s. It does get cold and damp along the west coast though. Besides for the Guinness Storehouse, we hardly ever felt crowded or had to wait for anything. Try googling towns and major attractions to make sure you don't plan to be around during a busy festival or event. For example, if you're not a Star Wars fan then you should plan to avoid Portmagee and Skellig Michael around May 4th.

We are going to Ireland for our honeymoon. The fall is their rainy season. It is also cold and dark during the fall (only 4-5 hours of day light). Best time to visit is March through June. It does not rain much, highs are in the mid to high 60s, & 8-10 hours of daylight.

We are getting married in October 2019 and doing a mini moon right after the wedding and then going to Ireland for our full honeymoon at the end of March 2020.

I’ve been in mid-November, early June, and March. It’s a fairly mild climate, but they do get a lot of rain (year round). In March, it snowed 😱.

For what its worth, I had a really lovely time in November. There was some rain— only one day was a wash out....and even then I’m now realizing only during the day— I had a soggy walk to the Guinness factory then ducked in for the experience, and by the time I got up to the gravity bar with its 360° views, I could see the storm passing on one side, and the blue skies coming up on the other. By that evening, it was pleasant enough to go to an outdoor bar ! Another day was a seriously gorgeous day and I set out on a long bike adventure between towns (annnd then got caught in a super brief passing shower — brief like, I stopped to get my coat and my the I got it out, the sun was back ...and a lovely rainbow!). I spent most of my time outside and was comfortable. I recall debating outerwear (I think the forecast was 50s and rain) so i opted for a warmer coat and I was glad I did, but I was never bundled, and I was never cold. I had a number of very beautiful blue-sky picturesque days, and some days I was okay in just a sweater. It was a lovely, nothing-too-crowded experience though I’m sure it varies.

June was lovely. You might still find cooler temps in April. The ultimate Irish trade off is all that rain makes everything green and lush and beautiful (and rainbows!!)
