Honeymooning in Portland, Oregon. Have suggestions?

Joani, on April 18, 2014 at 5:10 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 20

FH and I are from So Cal, and haven't been to Portland, Oregon, but we want to spend a week there for our honeymoon. If you're familiar with the area, I'd love your suggestions on things like hotels, day adventures, art galleries, restaurants, etc. We'll be there in early September.

Thank you!

Ah you'll love Portland! It's my other favorite city Smiley smile FH and I do a weekend down there probably once every month or every other month. For hotels, the Paramount is beautiful, as is the Nines, if you're okay with the price point. The Nines has two AWESOME bars/restaurants, one is in the middle and one is on the top of the building. Probably my favorite hotel there.

Either of the Jake's are great restaurants. Jake's Grill is my brunch/breakfast place of choice when FH and I go down there. If you're down for books, Powell's books is probably a good like 4 hour time waster and a ton of fun. There's an Art Museum which is pretty cool. Obviously Voodoo Donuts, even if you don't like doughnuts, it's worth it. Bring cash though, and expect to wait a while, but it is open 24 hours haha.

What do you and your FH like to do? There is SO MUCH in Portland that if you let me know a bit about what you like to do, I can give you better ideas Smiley smile

ETA: If you'd rather privately message me instead of posting on here, just let me know!

My parents live just outside of Portland, and when I went to visit them, they look me to the saturday market...it was this nice farmer's market type thing with tons of cute crafts and food and such. We also went to voodoo doughnut. That place is pretty awesome!

My favorite restaurant is definitely BEAST. They have two seatings for dinner and the food is phenom! She also does brunch on Sundays that is supposed to be good as well (http://www.beastpdx.com/). I also highly recommend her hubby's bar across the street too: Expatriate

The Pearl district is super fun to explore and walk around.

Oven & Shaker has great pizza, good lunch spot.

Definitely check out some of the food trucks while you're there too, Portland is famous for it!

Tasting Table has a pretty good guide of where to eat and drink: http://www.tastingtable.com/city_guide/national/152

    Have fun!

Went there last year and for eating we liked Andina in the Pearl District for tapas and Pok Pok in Richmond for Thai food. Little Big Burger for a good ol' burger. And of course Voodoo doughnuts for a sugar high. If you and your FH are in to craft beer, we did a beer tour and it was so much fun. If you are into shopping, there is no sales tax, which is definitely fun for me!

For sightseeing, check out the rose garden. We went in Feburary, so of course there was nothing for us to see when we there lol.

I'm in Portland! The views from Piddock mansion are worth looking at, never been inside but I'm sure it's nice inside too. Look up a list of breweries in Portland, there are a ton. I recommend Stepping Stone cafe, and anything along 23rd street. Lots of hip shopping and restaurants. I also recommend the Pearl District. Depending on when you are there, the rose garden and rhodadendron gardens are beautiful, even FH likes them. The zoo is fun to visit, and the Saturday market like someone mentioned above. They have all sorts of handmade things. There's also the PSU farmers market. If you venture out farther, I love going to Fort Vancouver. Old and beautiful!

Ahhh, I LOVE Portland! One of my favorite views in the city is sitting in Cathedral Park and looking up at the St Johns Bridge! It is so gorgeous. Get a coffee or lunch in the St. Johns Area (North Portland) and you can walk down to the park and hang out!

If you're a foodie, you're going to love PDX and you may end up moving there... no joke! I have a list of must-dos if you're a visitor (I lived there a few years ago and entertained ALOT of visitors):

--Happy hour at Portland City Grill www.portlandcitygrill.com/location.php - best views of the city (hopefully not too cloudy)

--Lunch from a food cart - there are a number of food cart pockets you can look up. (They're parked carts, not trucks, so you don't have to worry about tracking them down.)

--Dinner and concert at Doug Fir Lounge

--And you HAVE to make the drive out to the Columbia Gorge. SPECTACULAR views...

    Google Map: http://goo.gl/maps/Dkggy

First stop Vista House at Crown Point http://vistahouse.com/

    Next stop Multnomah Falls http://www.waterfallsnorthwest.com/nws/falls.php?num=4051

    Finally...Beacon Rock http://www.portlandrockclimbs.com/beacon-rock

Not sure if you how much energy you want to exert, but Beacon Rock will require a bit of climbing (but not with any equipment). You can climb up the West face using the narrow trail that is provided. I climbed it with jeans and a sweater, so if that's any indication. Enjoy the view and the trip!

Also, Pok Pok has already been recommended, but when you go, get the chicken wings! If you get nothing else - get the wings! Last time I was there (a couple years ago), they only took cash or debit. That may have changed since then, but just be prepared.

There are some spaces that have seasonal museums, I don't know if it's your cup of tea, but I want to go see the Anatomy museum when it comes back into town Smiley smile

Portland is a lovely city. I live in Houston now, but I have family in Portland and grew up on the Oregon coast.

There are tons of gorgeous waterwalls around the area. There's lots to see in downtown and the Saturday market is really fun. Lots of good food everywhere!

Yaaay my home!! I love my city! Maybe stay at Edgefield, it's a really cool hotel, and there are tons of little bars and restaurants all over the property. Definitely take a day trip to the coast! Or even spend a night or two there. Check out Saturday Market (downtown, Saturdays and Sundays). Hawthorne area is great for shopping, and eating. Multnomah Falls and Crown Point have gorgeous views, and if you're up for a hike Angel's Rest is to die for! We have a really great zoo, the downtown public library is gorgeous, Powell's books was already mentioned and that is a must. There are so many great things about Portland! We still haven't figured out our honeymoon yet, but my best friend is coming home for the first time in 15 years, so I'm tempted to just hang around town and show her everything again because it's changed so much!
