Honoring deceased family

Veronica, on April 4, 2021 at 1:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are getting married in September 2021. I am wondering what some of you have done or are planning to do to honor deceased loved ones at your wedding. I have seen candles and pictures of loved ones at weddings I’ve been to before, but would like something a little more special. My Fiancé’s mom passed away suddenly in December 2019, and while he handled the sudden loss very well, I want to include his mom in our special day. I know she would’ve been thrilled to be there with her son and I. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome. Thanks!

My personal favorite recommendation: did she have a favorite flower that your FH knows? Make it his boutonniere. That way she can be right there by his heart all day.

Otherwise, some other suggestions that I have made to others with a similar question: play her favorite song at the reception, serve her favorite food or drink, include a quote from her favorite movie or book in the ceremony somewhere (this takes some work, but it can be done).

A great way to get ideas is to simply talk to your FH about what made his mom special, and go from there. What made her, her?

Thank you! That was very helpful! I’m still somewhat new to this so I was unable to find any other forums on the topic but the one you posted has a lot of nice ideas. I like the charm on the boutonnière and bouquet, and the reserved chair during the ceremony.

Thank you for the suggestions! I know she liked flowers and they both shared a love for cats so I can think about something and incorporate it into it.

Ah, a cat lady after my own heart! Smiley love Cat charms and brooches are very easy to come by. Either would be easy to incorporate into a bouquet and boutonniere.

I will be wrapping three chairs in the front row with lavender and black ribbon bow to reserve a special spot in honor of my father, sister and his grandmother.
