Honoring Deceased Moms

Rian, on April 8, 2021 at 5:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
My fiancé lost his mom in 2016 and I lost mine early this year in March. We are looking for ways to in a way- include them, in our ceremony. We’ve tossed around the idea of having their pictures and small blurbs on the back or our programs but we decided we wanted something a little more intimate. Can anyone give a girl some ideas?

First, I'm so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to both of you.

The first idea that came to my mind was that maybe you can dedicate a song to each of them during the reception, maybe dance with your family in memory of her. I'm kind of doing the same in memory of my grandfather, we are dedicating a song to him and I'm going to ask my grandmother, mother, aunt and cousins to come join me for a dance in honor of him.

I've also seen chairs at the ceremony blocked off in memory of the ones who couldn't make it from heaven. You could include their photos in your bouquet. You could also even do a moment of silence in memory of them either at the ceremony or reception.

I'm so sorry for you losses. I'm including a picture of my mother on a charm on my bouquet. As an alternative for him maybe a picture in a pocket watch perhaps so shes there with him as well.

I'm so sorry for your losses. One thing you could do is put a framed photo of each of them on their chairs at the ceremony. Or, like Sarah said, you could also attach a keychain to your bouquet with their pictures on it. You could setup a place setting for each of them at the reception and place their photo at the setting. And I love Allie's idea of doing a special dance in their honor! I also once saw an idea where someone sewed a heart made from the fabric of her loved one's shirt into her dress.

So sorry to hear that—do they each have a favorite song you can have played during your cocktail hour or reception?
