Honoring older married couples..

Mrs Roberts, on September 20, 2011 at 4:17 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 14

I had an idea to honor a few of the married couples that will be attending the wedding. I was thinking of asking for wedding pictures of FH and my immediate family with their spouse from their wedding day to place on tables at the reception. I thought it would be a nice intimate touch to show couples who have been married 15-20 years being that we will strive for the same. I also thought it'd be nice to have each couple get up and share a piece of advise/words of wisdom.

Has anyone done something similar?

Our reception will be all white. Can you ladies give me an idea of how I should set the table decor? I thought white frames and votive candles. Picture ideas would be a great help!

Thanks Ladies!

I love the photo idea. However, I wouldn't interrupt party flow with the sharing. Rather, have all guests writedown on a piece of paper shaped like old fashioned key and have them put them in a jar.

We are doing an anniversary dance. My parents celebrated their 50th. So, they will be last on the dance floor and will get a bouquet.

Our DJ would also like to intermingle the first dance songs of our guests into his play list. Throughout the evening, when he plays that song, he will announce that it is XXXXX song in XXXXX year. However, the momentum of the party will not stop.

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for that idea Carole. Our wedding will be a day wedding. The ceremony starting at 11 with a luncheon to follow 12:30 so we will not be having a full blown reception. There will be no DJ so we will more than likely not have a 1st dance, etc. We are expecting around 60 people. I have attached a picture of the inside of the restaurant.

I was trying to find other ways to keep guest entertained during the 2 1/2 reception. It will be adults only.

If I was an older person and saw my picture in a frame at the wedding, my first thought would be "I'm not dead yet!"

That aside, they might not want to talk about that on the spot, and that could take up a lot of time. It's cute, but keep in mind people also may give you glimmers of advice in the guestbook. Smiley smile

Since you are not having a DJ, than of course, having the guests share would be a great idea.

Thanks for the link southerngirl15! I haven't been on pinterest before so much appreciated!!

    Thanks John C!

Jouselle, I hope no one is thinking of death during such a happy time. I thought it would show admiration to them. I definitely wouldn't want anyone to feel 'old.'

Yeah it's great for lots of ideas. I just discovered it with my wedding less than a month away! Wish I would have heard about it sooner-- so just trying to share the love! Smiley smile

Since it sounds like you have many couples married that long, could you honor them by doing something with your table centerpieces -- maybe not name the table after them, but on the table numbers have a picture on one side and their story on the other side.

I also saw (on a really old episode of 4 weddings) one couple gave the bouquet to the couple who'd been married the longest instead of a toss and thought that was really sweet - since I'm not a particular fan of the bouquet toss anyway.

Juliette I love that idea! I'd just have to find a double sided frame. Thanks so much for your help!

It's a sweet idea. I would but there will probably only be maybe 2 couples that have been married that long. When I brought up the anniversary dance idea with my mom, she shot it down. I don't think she wants to have much attention on her. Unfortunately most of the people I know are divorced or not married, or something. There won't be many long time married couples at my wedding. Such as life.

Me too Jacklyn...and some nasty, recent divorces, so I don't know if I will be honoring anyone...but I do live the idea

My cousin did a dance with the DJ had all married couples on the floor and did by years and people would take a seat. The last couple standing you'd give a rose to. If you love country music like I do. Do "I thought I loved you then"

I was at my husbands nephews wedding reception recently and they invited the married couples to dance along with the bride and groom and counted up to those who have been married under 5,10,15,years..etc. the last married couple left dancing with the bride and groom ..ended up being the grooms grandparents of 57years...it was a great idea...
