A bunch of my cousins (and FH and myself included) like using a hookah. A few of us own our own and use them every year at our family reunion. If there was a good outdoor area at my venue I might even use this idea but we don't have that available. As long as it's not near where everyone else has to be, I don't see an issue.

I've seen it TONS of times, and I think for being a cultural thing, it's acceptable.

I live in the middle of hookahville USA though, and they're everywhere.

I agree, as long as it's outside and is monitored, I think it's perfectly acceptable and I would totally be down for it at a wedding.

^ That's why each person gets their own plastic mouthpiece.

I think I just heard something about hookah being bad for you.

If you really want it, I'd make it part of your bachelorette party, not the weddings. It's one of those things that you have to " get " and most people don't.

I saw this idea on Four weddings. It looked nice. They had the hookah in a different room away from the actual reception. Me personally wouldn't do it because I'm afraid of people dropping coal and burning stuff up or maybe even getting to drunk where their pulling the hose knocking the whole thing over. Just a extra mess to clean up and keep an eye on.

I actually own a hookah catering company and I mainly cater weddings. Every wedding I have catered guests have been more than impressed with the idea of having hookahs at a wedding. It really makes for something unique and cool for your wedding.

I'm Persian, and this is customary to have a little section of the wedding dedicated to hookahs and tea. It's never a problem for the other guests because it's set aside in an area where others who are sensitive to smoke won't be affected
