Hot apple cider mix favors?

MrsNerd, on September 7, 2016 at 7:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

Has anyone done an apple cider mix favor? I've seen little mason jars or muslin bags with mix, and then a little tag tied on with a cinnamon stick or something - question is, did you make your own, or buy? I'm looking on etsy and not finding what I had in mind. I'd love suggestions!

Apple cider mix? Like a powder that you mix with water to make apple cider? I have not heard of this before and it sounds kind of strange to me.

Can you do the same thing with hot cocoa mix instead?

I think they sell that kind of powder at Costco, but I'm not sure, and regardless you'd have to make up your own bags of it. You can get the right bags at a craft or cake decorating store, I think. If you can't find apple cider powder, maybe try "Russian tea" mix? You can find different recipes on the Internet.

I did this with bags - I got cellophane bags from the dollar store and bought honey sticks, cinnamon sticks, tea and cider. Each bag got a honey stick, a cinnamon stick and tea or cider (alternated place settings). I got "thank you" favor tags from Michaels and tied them on with a piece of ribbon. It ended up costing about $1/pp and took a couple weekend afternoons to do.

They sell the powder at costco. But I would leave that favor behind, because I think hot apple cider mix is gross. I can share a baller homemade hot chocolate mix recipe with you though, that would give the same effect!

Thanks all - this is what I was thinking. Is this really not cute? Haha I thought it was, but if the general concensus is that it's gross, I'll re-think it!

I think it's cute! I like hot cider but I know not everyone does, which is why I did tea also.

Another option would be a chai mix... I make this as gifts sometimes and it's a hit. You could do a couple different options between cider, hot cocoa, and chai so that guests can pick their favorite.

Hot cocoa for me! I don't like cider; heck, I don't even like apple juice.

It's not everybody cup of tea. I personally love it but I also know lots of people who kind of hate it. Maybe you can have choice of cider or hot chocolate?

Good idea everyone! I'll maybe so hot cocoa or cider, but give a choice - if I go this route. @O&L I very much appreciate your pun, whether it was intended or not haha

I like cider, but only the fresh kind. I don't like the powdered kind because it's full of chemicals and artificial flavors, and I try to eat really clean.

Search for Alton Brown's homemade hot cocoa mix. You'll never go back to the store bought kind!

Aside from the packets they sell at Costco (delicious btw) I couldn't find actual diy recipes online. They're either Russian tea mix (also yummy but include Tang orange powder and instant tea for a completely different flavor) or spices to add to hot apple juice in the crockpot at home. The spice mix in a small jar would be fun with specific instructions.
