Hot or Cold Plate Wedding Dinner?

Leesha, on February 6, 2015 at 4:20 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 48

Hiya,

my mom told me what they used to do at weddings was have a Cold Plate dinner. Meaning they would have Ham/Turkey/Roast((One or the other, maybe two)) (cooked, but room temperature? idk how to explain it) and then their would just be pastas, salads and stuff to go along with your Cold PLate dinner...

Or would you prefer a hot plate dinner? with the same Ham/Turkey/Roast options..

I dont know if i like the idea, i am just wondering what you all thought about it?

Hope this makes sense, if it does not I will try clarify better.

I know what you are talking about, We talked about something like this my first semester of college. I personally prefer a hot plate dinner. But everybody is different.

I had no idea this existed, but I definitely wouldn't do this for my own wedding nor would I want to eat a cold meal at a wedding as a guest

I went to a shower that was cold plate and I thought it was kind of weird... I would probably think a wedding was even weirder but I'm guessing this is one of those, depends on your family/social circle ones.

Totally not real thing. Hot meal for sure.

Question though, are you crowd sourcing every detail of your wedding? I am asking in all sincerity, with absolutely no snark; high or low table numbers, what day to eat breakfast. These are all small choices that I am somewhat surprised that you cannot make a decision on.

We had an afternoon reception and served cold food... meats, cheeses, rolls, tomato pesto penne, antiplasto platters, fruit and salad. A sit down dinner at 3pm would have been too much. Our wedding was small and casual, so it worked for us.

Hot food preferred but agree with Sarah on an early afternoon reception being able to do cold foods if you wanted.

@Emmy, no im not. I honestly have a really, really REALLY hard time making decisions. I stress over the smallest things... just like the high or low table numbers... I really could not decide on what i liked best, I really like getting other's opinions when I am so indecisive. Especially with the breakfast thing, i wanted to know what others would have liked.

I suck at making decisions thats just me haha

Cold is definitely a lunch thing only.

Leesha, just to give you a tip from someone that is already through their wedding planning and on the other side of things - 90% of what you are worrying about, won't matter. There were so many things I stressed about during planning that ended up such a non thing that I feel like I could have saved myself so much stress and brain cells.

I echo Sarah and Sherry, the menu sounds more like a lunch menu (and a casual menu at that). If you are looking for a formal feel or you are planning an evening reception then a hot meal is more appropriate.

Cold. Lunch or 'here's your pound of caviar and lox'. Not for everyone.

I agree with Mrs. F-u, all those little details you stress over are not going to matter to your guests (though hot vs. cold meals would matter to everyone). I don't remember hearing any of the music I so carefully planned, I barely had time to eat and was so busy during cocktail hour I had time for 1 drink and 2 hors d'ourves. That being said, the forums are here to ask opinions, don't let one or two people dissuade you from asking any/all questions you want.
