Hotel blocks- Courtesy versus contracted?

Jessica, on August 18, 2021 at 8:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
Hi everyone, I can anybody explain the difference between a courtesy block versus a contracted block? I have selected one hotel that I would like to use however the lady hasn’t return my phone calls and only email me. Any insights would be helpful what to do. We are tracking roughy 2.5hr to our wedding and I’m only offering 1 hotel as we have shuttles to / from. Thanks in advance for your help.

What I did get from the hotel is that if we don’t do some type of block when they see an increase of hotel bookings they will substantially raise their prices which I don’t want to see happened so I definitely think I need something in place.

A courtesy block doesn't require any money upfront. The hotel reserves a certain number of rooms for your guests. They typically go back to the general public about a month before your event. Often times, they will add more rooms if all the originally reserved rooms get book. You are not responsible for any costs towards unsold rooms. A contracted block usually requires the couple to put some money down if there are unsold rooms.

    Hannah explained it perfectly.

Courtesy = not on the hook for any rooms not booked in the block (the leftover rooms are released to the general public about a month before)

Contracted = any unbooked rooms, the couple pays for

My hotel did say that if all the courtesy booked rooms are booked, I can make another courtesy block but it'll be at the rate that they're booking at that time. So it may not be as cheap as what the original block is.
