Hotel Room for Getting Ready

BeachBride2016, on June 16, 2016 at 11:20 AM Posted in Planning 1 37

Are you using a hotel room to get ready in? I will be and I'm trying to decide how big of a room I should be getting. I'd prefer to get the least expensive room option, however I'm worried there won't be enough room for the make-up artist and hair stylist to work on us all (5-7 of us).

For reference, the standard hotel room has a king size bed and double size bed in the room, plus a desk with chair. The suites have the same plus also a dining room table that seats 4 and a loveseat and chair (they're about 700 sq ft). The suite is about $130 more/night (and I'd need the room for 2 nights), so after taxes likely around $300 more that I'd be spending for the suite. Thoughts?

ETA - I just did the math and the total for the non-suite room for 2 nights is $360 and for the suite it'd be $640, so it's nearly double the price to go with the suite.

I reserved a king room... fairly large to use for getting ready. And then my FH and I were going to stay there after the wedding.

However, I am no longer using it to get ready. We are just getting ready at the church, there's more room there and then I don't have to worry about getting to the church on time since we will be there early after the hair appointments. We are going to the salon for appointments. So I can't help you there.

I plan to have a hotel room but since we are grooms there are no makeup or hair people. But we plan to have enough room to have the photographer and wedding party in there comfortably at some point.

700 sq ft is pretty good but I would say more importantly is how is the space by the window because if you want pictures of you getting ready and getting make up done, it's really the space around the window that is most improtant.

I'm doing a junior suite because I need extra room. Ours will cost about $560.

I actually went to the hotel to look at the room and make sure it was big enough.

Eta: The reason we didn't combine rooms was because the beds seemed to take up too much room.

I did the suite. It was a great decision and so fun to all be in one room. After the wedding people came and partied there.

The hotel by our venue has a bridal suite that we will be reserving.

I'm debating on it since my house is about an hour from the venue.

I almost did a king room then decided on doing a junior suite, because I only need it for one night. For 5-7 people, I'm not sure if that would be enough space. It depends on the room.

Is there some way you could rent the suite for one night and rent a regular king room for the second night?

The hotel (aka our venue) is on the beach so it has great windows and a balcony that I'm hoping provides a lot of light. I really should go see the room options in person, good idea. The hotel does have a bridal suite you can rent to get ready in but it's way more than the suite rooms and to be honest it's decorated pretty cheesy/gaudy (in my opinion) so I want to steer clear of that!

@Kiwi - I thought about that but I'm not sure what time I'd be able to get into the suite on the day of the wedding and I'm guessing hair/make-up people will get there by like 10am or so? I'd really rather be in the same room for both nights just to avoid the stress of worrying if I can get in early enough and having to move around.

We are staying in the honeymoon suite the night of the wedding so I didn't want it to get all dirty during the day while getting ready and come back to a mess. So we are using one of the smaller hotel conference rooms. It works out perfectly because they have several tables and chairs we can use so we can also set up a small breakfast bar and serve everyone lunch from that room. We got the room for free because we are buying food from the hotel. I would highly suggest doing this if you have the option because the last wedding I was in there were 7 of us getting ready in king suite with a couch and dining table and it was pretty cramped.

I think the suite is $360 well spent. You will be so much more comfortable. I think it's worth it!

I would definitely do the suite. The more space the better.

I work in hotels and this comes up a lot. Our regular rooms are 360 square feet and our suites are 520 and usually $60 to $100 more per night. I usually recommend trying to get adjoining rooms. Then you have 2 bath rooms and more space. Then you just use one room night of the wedding. Most brides I've worked with have loved this!

We got the suite. I wanted everyone to be comfortable while getting ready. There was 11 of us in there though with moms and kids included. Then we used it for our wedding night too for our family.

I would get a large room because you will have HAMU people, BM's, Mom, Dad, FMIL, etc coming and going all morning.

As a makeup artist I would suggest getting a larger room. Maybe you could see if the hotel has a meeting room you guys could use on the day of. If not. Utilize the bathroom for hair and a space directly in front of the window for the MUA. Make sure there is a SET schedule so things run smoothly with little foot traffic.

I was able to get a king suite, and in our area it came to $173(ish) for two nights. We had to get the night prior to the wedding, because check-in is after 4 p.m. and our ceremony is at 3. FH and I will be going there after the reception also.

We're renting a 3 bdrm house through Airbnb for the BMs, mom, aunt and I to get ready, it is a 6-8 mins drive from venue. Plus, we will be getting a hotel suite for the FH and his groomsmen to get ready and is 5 min drive from venue. We will be staying in the suite after the reception and mom, aunt, sister and son, will then stay at the house after the reception.

I would suggest looking to see if the hotel you're staying at has a meeting or conference room you could use to get ready. I had 8 bridesmaids plus myself, my mom, 2 hair stylists and 2 makeup artists so I needed a lot of space to get ready so the meeting room was perfect. It was about $100 to use for the day and then put my dress on in the hotel room and everyone else got ready in their room. I would look into that in the sense of a price difference since you only need it for a few hours. If not, I would definitely suggest getting a suite though, because you'll want the extra space to get ready!

@beachbride- where's your venue? It sounds exactly like mine!

Grand Plaza at St Pete Beach by any chance?
