Hotel Room for Getting Ready

Are you using a hotel room to get ready in? I will be and I'm trying to decide how big of a room I should be getting. I'd prefer to get the least expensive room option, however I'm worried there won't be enough room for the make-up artist and hair stylist to work on us all (5-7 of us). For...

Are you using a hotel room to get ready in? I will be and I'm trying to decide how big of a room I should be getting. I'd prefer to get the least expensive room option, however I'm worried there won't be enough room for the make-up artist and hair stylist to work on us all (5-7 of us).

For reference, the standard hotel room has a king size bed and double size bed in the room, plus a desk with chair. The suites have the same plus also a dining room table that seats 4 and a loveseat and chair (they're about 700 sq ft). The suite is about $130 more/night (and I'd need the room for 2 nights), so after taxes likely around $300 more that I'd be spending for the suite. Thoughts?

ETA - I just did the math and the total for the non-suite room for 2 nights is $360 and for the suite it'd be $640, so it's nearly double the price to go with the suite.

We did the suite and it would've been torture with a smaller room. There were 5 BMs, me, my mom in and out, hairstylist and a MUA. I think it was about 700sqft.

Another consideration, I don't know if any of your girls are doing their own hair and makeup, but if they are, suites normally have larger bathrooms which equals more mirror space.

In just jumping in here but when you call make sure your hotel room has a full length mirror if you plan to get ready there. You want to see yourself in all your full bridal dress glory!

When I called around hotels I was checking smaller ones so I had to be sure to ask about a mirror.

Our hotel offers a bridal suite to get ready in that has no beds and lots of seating and mirrors for hairstylist and make up artist to work their magic! Ask them about a bridal suite maybe?

My sister's bridal suite was tiny. It was maybe 10x15 but all of us in our huge dresses were able to get ready there. I don't think the size will be such a big deal. It wasn't for us and we had all our stuff all over the place plus the MUA and hair dresser. Four women, two artists.

I had a suite. I stayed in it alone the night before the wedding. Then I had a ton of room for my bridesmaids, mom, etc to hang out and get ready. There were 2 stylists at one point. One of them worked in the living room, one worked in the bedroom. It was nice to have the extra space!!! It wasn't a HUGE suite, but it was nice. Then the hotel staff cleaned it up nice and hung up "Just Married" signs for hubby and me as we shared the suite after the wedding Smiley smile

No matter which room you get, ask the hotel to put in a stack of chairs if they have conference rooms! I did and it was a GREAT idea! That way people could sit on chairs instead of gathering on beds, which could be awkward. No one had to stand around.

Oh - the hotel I stayed at and booked my room block with also offered the use of one of their conference/meeting rooms. If you want to stay in a regular hotel room... ask if yours does that!!

I didn't go that route as my MIL treated me to the suite (she's so awesome!) but if you could use a meeting room as a big open spot with lots of tables and chairs to get ready, that would be great! Lots of room!

There's going to be 9 people getting ready plus 3 hair stylists and 2 MUAs- I booked a hospitality room that has two couches, dining room table, kitchenette, full bathroom, etc. for 2 nights (we have to have access at 7:30 AM the day of the wedding). I'm also staying in our honeymoon suite the night before with my MOHs and the night of with FH. I'll dress and take pictures there. BMs will stay in the hospitality room to dress.

@deb - Yes! It's the Grand Plaza! There's another bride on here getting married there as well. Too funny. How you decided how you'll handle this yet?

    Venue twin!!!!

Not sure yet. I'm staying at the Post Card Inn as of right now as they had the best prices for room blocks. There is a race series the weekend of my wedding so the logistics are tough. Grand Plaza suites are extra expensive that weekend right now so I'm hoping they go down. Most of Gulf Bvld prices are higher because of it. I may end up in the glamour room, but I'm ok with that if its my only option. I can't even get a regular room for less than 300 right now at GP.

I can't wait for your BAM now!!!! I love Tatyana so much, she deals with all of my emails.

I had a suite for 10 ladies to get ready in. The hotel also brought in food & drinks, so we needed table space for that. We had the extra advantage that the suite had two bathrooms, so the girls that didn't go with the professional services had plenty of space to spread out & get ready, as well as shower after early morning yoga. I couldn't have imagined having all of us fit comfortably in a regular sized room.

@Deb - Tatyana is my coordinator, too! Love her! I just wrote her to ask how much the Glam room is again, and if it's available (I forget what is in our paperwork, which is at home). She's also the coordinator for the other bride I mentioned that's also getting married there; her name is Lisa.

My last thing to book is the cake, but my tasting is set up.

I follow their wedding page on FB as well to get ideas. They do a ton of weddings, even several during the week so I'm confident that things will go well.

I got a suite and am so happy I did. There would never have been enough room in a normal room. PLUS since it had a kitchen, we brought food with us for the night before and getting ready, and we utilized the fridge and stove and microwave.

@beachbride2016 I stumbled upon this while searching for opinions on this same issue and saw that you were talking about the hotel I'm wondering about! Did you end up going with a standard room or the suite? Was there enough room in whichever one you picked?

@Abbey - Hello! Yes we ended up going with the suite for 2 nights (they gave us a GREAT double balcony corner room). I'd highly recommend it! I didn't even have a huge Bridal party (4 BMs, me and my mom got ready there) and the suite was the perfect size. Plus the 2 separate rooms within it made for great getting ready picture options.

    Hi Kaitlin!

Did you have any problems with guests arriving to check into the hotel when you are your bridesmaids were getting ready in the conference room on the day of your wedding? Since there aren’t bathrooms and such in the conference room, you’d have to leave the room and risk people seeing you? Thanks!
