Hotel to venue distance

Natalie, on February 20, 2024 at 10:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Help! we are having a destination vineyard wedding and there are no hotels or rehearsal dinner venue options nearby.

How far is too far to have the wedding from the hotel?? We do plan to shuttle guests from the hotel to the wedding but not to the rehearsal dinner.
Here are the two options we are thinking:
Option 1 - Have guests stay 30 mins from wedding venue and from rehearsal dinner venue. We would provide transportation for wedding. Not rehearsal dinner.
Option 2 - Have guests stay 1 hour from wedding venue but within walking distance to rehearsal dinner. We would provide transportation to wedding.
Thoughts?

I would prefer option 2 for myself. If you’re providing transportation to the venue, I would like to have the opportunity to go to the rehearsal dinner as well.

We're doing a 30 minute distance and will provide a shuttle for the wedding but not the rehearsal dinner. Since we're not having a destination wedding, there will be a lot fewer people invited to the rehearsal dinner for us.

I think option 1 makes more sense because if something happens and people miss the shuttle then 30 mins is a lot easier to find transportation on the fly. Option 2 also assumes that all of your guests are able to comfortably walk however far that distance is (could be next door, I don't know!) but still something to think about. Also an hour drive is a lot for some.

It's already a destination wedding, which means all guests will be traveling, and likely spending more time and money than they would otherwise just to be there. On top of that even a half hour would start to be annoying but an hour away from any accommodation options is IMO even further adding to the inconvenience. Not everyone wants to take the provided transportation either. Some will rent cars and want to be able to come and go on their own.

Neither option is great but I'd prefer the first, personally.

ETA I misspoke and edited my post. I meant I'd prefer to be half hour away from the wedding and rehearsal venue if I had no other options.

I guess I’m the minority, but I would rather not have to travel an hour to and from the wedding. I would choose option 1. But in all honesty, if it is a destination wedding, I’d also look into the possibility of adding transportation to the rehearsal dinner as well.

I agree with you on both counts.

I think you should add transportation to the rehearsal dinner too. A destination wedding means that people with be without their cars, I'm assuming? Unless they rent vehicles how would you expect to get them to the rehearsal dinner?
