How are you being announced as a newly married couple?

KR, on August 15, 2014 at 12:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I'm still internally struggling with dropping my last name, although at some point I probably will because I think it's important to my FH. But not until I need my passport renewed because I'm not paying for another one just yet... Smiley smile

So I'm a bit torn on the officiant and DJ's "Pleased to announce Mr. and Mrs...."

How are you going to be announced?

I'm taking my f/s last name so it's going to be mrs. and mrs. D... (no first names).... I've been wanting to change my last name since I was 5! But I think you meant Mr. and Mrs.?

I don't know the exact wording, but it will probably have to include our first names too, since his dad has the same first name. But I'm taking his last name, can't wait to do so, and will definitely be introduced by only his last name for last names.

If you dont want to change your name have the dj say "ladies and gentleman help me welcome the wonderful bride Jane and her handsome groom John"

Mr. and Mrs. Abela....! My name is getting changed!

@Bridetobe123, I think its fine to be announced that way...traditionally etiquette dictates that certain professional titles such as Doctor be used to replace Mr or Mrs...you guys should always be referred to as Doctor and Mrs FH's Last Name once you are married

Thanks everyone! @Andi, I love that option...I'll run that by the FH.

@Bridetobe, I think it's also fine. I like special titles though Smiley smile My sister's in her residency as well and I would definitely encourage her to use the Dr. title in a wedding!

There are already so many big changes around a wedding that changing your last name doesn't need to happen right away...or at all.

I have a friend who didn't change her last name until they had their first child...5 years later. She said her husband really wanted her to change it but it didn't make sense to her until she had kids.

I don't plan on changing my name although my FH really wants me to. I think in time he will be fine with it.

My introduction will be "Welcome for the first time as husband and wife, Sue and John".

Bridetobe123--it is definitely customary to be introduced with proper titles, so Dr. and Mrs. would make sense. I have heard Dr. and Dr. (they both had their doctorates...), or could be Rev. and Mrs., etc.

I can't wait to be announced with his last name! I most definitely will be making a grand entrance with him as "Mr. and Mrs. Kerwin!"

@Bridetobe123, for sure have them announce as Dr. That's his proper title and should be addressed as such. Yay for him on being a Dr.!

We will be announcing something like, "Please welcome for the first time, Mr and Mrs. German!"

We thought about adding first names in too -- would be both, not just his -- but decided against it.

May I introduce to you for the first time as husband and wife--the newlyweds John and Mary! (This works either way--if you're taking his last name or not.)

I'm definitely not changing my name, so we're just being introduced as "the newlyweds"!
