How are you handling “dancing zones” at your wedding?

Esp, on April 9, 2021 at 9:57 PM Posted in New York Planning 2 35
It’s currently a requirement to dance in zones and I’m not sure I understand it.. I have yet to see this enforced I’m hoping it goes away by Aug 2021 Smiley sad

I would speak to your venue about how they handle this.

I think it would mean that each table has their own space that is 6 feet away from everyone else?

They aren’t sure how they are going to handle it bc they haven’t opened since the pandemic , their first event is May 1st but their first wedding is July 10th & my wedding is only a few weeks later ;( so I’m trying to get the gist of it

In my state you can dance but you have to be 6 feet apart. I don't know how you would go about enforcing that especially when people are drinking.

My state is doing this also. They are calling it dancing in ‘pods’, meaning just dancing with the people at your table. I personally don’t see why this is necessary as long as everyone keeps 6 feet. My guests are forced to get tested before entry by the state as well so I really think it’s so unnecessary to dance in pods.

Have you been to a reception where this was enforced ? & I agree it’s so strange and I can’t picture it but haven’t seen it be enforced

I haven’t been to a reception yet where this was done, but my wedding is at the beginning of June. I’m hoping that by June this whole pod thing will be lifted. At this point, I was initially told that there would be no dancing at my wedding, so I’m basically taking what I can get LOL. Fiasco

Agreed lol it’s so hard to plan like this bc I don’t want dancing pods so if there are pods I rather not even get a DJ and don’t know what direction to move towards .. so frustrating

I know exactly how you feel! Like even things like passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, Open bar, all has to be seated now. Yeah if you really want to get a kick in the butt go take a walk around your local mall and look at the food court LOL! None of the rules make any sense. But at the same time, I think you still should get a DJ because they basically are the hosts of the night. They will help keep your timeline etc. I feel like things will loosen up by my wedding which means that by yours you should hopefully be in the clear.Unfortunately it seems like the masks are here to stay. I certainly will not be wearing a mask on my wedding day and neither will my FH. Everyone will be testing negative in order to get in so I really don’t see what the point is. No one will be coming within 6 feet of each other, but you know just more crazy rules.

I am not wearing a mask either my makeup is too expensive to wear a mask Smiley sad & yes I think we’re going to book a DJ but every DJ I talk to seems annoyed that I’m telling them I’m not sure I want dancing I just want to create an ambiance & not a crazy dance party & plan b would be a party but to be prepared for just mood music & they don’t like that lol

Yeah, it’s amazing how much money we pay these people to just do what we want, and many of them act like they’re planning their weddings. I get their concerned about their reputation etc., but at the end of the day we pay these people way too much money… In some cases more than they’re actually worth, and least they could do is just listen to us in this time of chaos

I totally agree, this experience has opened up my eyes to the toxic world of the wedding industry , & during the pandemic I don’t think a lot of vendors are trying to work with us when it comes to being unsure or cancellations etc.. I wish the restrictions were more clear and that I can actually see an example of how they plan on doing all of this .. this would help me plan

I always joke with my fiancé and he says the reason why the government is so harsh with the wedding industry is because they’ve all been skruud over by all of the people in the wedding industry when they had their weddings or their children’s weddings LOL

I was at a NY wedding mid March, right when the new rules went into effect. The venue had small dance floors set up six feet apart. Each dance pod could only contain 10 people. No drinks on the dance floor pods and must be masked. The poor wedding planner had to keep taking drinks off the floor and harassing people about their masks. The pods were less of an issue other than looking odd but the masks were annoying since you tend to read peoples lips when the music is blasting.

Hi folks, in case anyone is interested, just started a separate thread on how to call on Cuomo to relax the dancing zone rules: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/how-to-call-on-cuomo-to-relax-the-dancing-zone-rules/a5694f1331048cac.html

My venue told us it was up to us the couple to delegate and ensure every dances with their households only and stays 6ft apart with masks on. We don’t want to do that on our big day so we opted out of having any dancing.

Do you think that it will really be enforced ? Especially if they leave it up to you .. I would just not do it and have a good time

I think it would be enforced for us. Our photographer who shots many weddings at our venue told me that he would get in trouble by the venue staff if people were too close or not putting their masks back on between pictures. So I can definitely see if dancing turned into one giant mob on the dance floor and masks being lowered being a problem. And I know once drinks are consumed inhibitions go way down. Luckily we already planned our wedding with last years restrictions in mind, we were simply entertaining the idea of dancing with the loosened restrictions but they seem like more of a hassle just to maintain than anything else. It doesn’t seem the mandated testing or proof of vaccination gives us any leeway with this.
