Because this is my second marriage and first wedding for FH but his mom is retired and father is deceased we are paying for our own wedding.

We have a 6k budget for about 175, but this does not include dress, rings, or honeymoon. We are fortunate enough to have a rental property which is basically paying for our wedding, with a little help from our income. We refuse to start our marriage in debt trying to pay for a wedding.

To all the brides/couples paying for your own wedding, how are you footing the bill?

Are you charging the whole thing?

Working a second job?

Dipping into savings?

My parents will be paying for 80% while we foot the remaining 20%. We are very grateful for their generous gift.

We are paying for everything ourselves...just a little at a time each pay check. It's costing about $5000-$6000.

Each paycheck we put some money on the hall, and then I just get little odds & ends as I see them.

so far, there's no help from family. just me and him

I'm putting aside money from every paycheck and have built wedding costs into each month's budget. So, this month, I am purchasing all gifts for wedding party, my shower/RD dresses, paying a set amount towards the church, etc. I'm in the final three months of planning, so most everything is paid.

We are paying cash.We had to make some major changes because of my getting sick and not working for almost 4 years now.We scaled things way back. We are using mostly our tax refund to pay for the wedding my mom is buying my shoes, headpiece and paying for my hair and make-up. But we are only going to spend about $3500.00 because we are having the ceremony on a Friday in a park and the reception is only going to have about 50 guest.I got a GREAT deal on pictures and the dinner is going to be buffet and the DJ is a family friend and is charging us very little our honeymoon is just going to be a 2 nights at the beach since its the offseason we getting a good room rate.

Thank God for my parents... my parents are paying for the whole wedding and I wanted to keep it under 25K... it's slowly creeping passed 30K as my mom keeps increasing the guest list... but she wants to invite certain people-- oh wells... at least they are paying for it. If it were my fiancee and me paying for it, we would have probably had a small ceremony with just our close family and friends... but I wouldn't know who to cut since I come from a huge italian family... heck... i had a graduation party this weekend and there were 97 people at my house! (That included all of my side's guest list, minus about 20 people because of work and what have you)

We are paying for the majority of it ourselves. FH puts away part of his check every pay day, I pay most of the household bills so I've been putting about $1000 a month away (since February) for the wedding Although our families have been great and surprised us a few times with extra help... My mom and MOH paid for my dress!!! Huge surprise. My Dad is paying for the beer, FMIL is paying for the wine, My mom is paying for the cake... and FH brothers sisters and father all surprised us with a cash gift a few weeks ago. Our total budget came to just under $8500 (originally we set it at $6500) and we will not have a penny of wedding debt!

Our collective parents are paying about 1/3 of the budget, we're paying the rest. Having a long engagement (more than 1 1/2 years) has helped a lot so far, and just trying to cut back on things. We downgraded cable, eat out less, and avoid shopping for clothes and other frills. Downgrading both our phones this weekend. We're also gathering DIY ideas and exploring vendor options carefully.

Our wedding costs about 17k, my FH's mom offered to pay 13k of it, but we gratefully refused because that's allll her retirement saving. We're paying for all of it by ourselves~

Wedding Budget: around $20,000 (not including honey moon)

I am putting $2,000 per month towards the wedding from November 2011 to February 2012 = $8,000

Fiance's parents are giving us $5,000

Fiance is responsible for the remaining.

We will be paying everything in cash or check.

We’ve been planning our wedding for the last two years, give or take, and we had a dedicated savings account that we add to every month. Part of budgeting is having a “need” and “want” list, coordinating where you can and making concessions where you have to in order to stay under budget.

The most important things to consider cost-wise is venue, food, photography, and entertainment (like a dj.) Florals and beauty have a few work-arounds—silk flowers are cheaper, or you can consider what’s in season for your wedding date and be open-minded about what flowers a florist could provide for the cheapest options. For hair and makeup, you can have a friend or family member (or yourself 😉) do it, or to save a little bit, have it done at a salon instead of having an mua/hairstylist come on-site.
Cash bars can save you, which is what we’re doing. Other cost-effective tips are: fake/small wedding cake with sheet cake for the guests, buffet style meals and rentals/DIY for decorations. Off-the-rack or thrifted dresses (or dresses that aren’t traditional ‘wedding dresses’ will save you some $$$, as would moissanite or non-traditional stones in a wedding ring.
Other than that, I’d suggest writing down or hashing out what you both want (indoor/outdoor ceremony/reception, setting, colors, food, etc) and then filtering for price AND REVIEWS in lists of vendors, like on WeddingWire or theKnot. Figure out about how much you’re willing to pay for each thing and then stick to or below that budget.
    For example ours is—
    * Venue: $910 (a cute local botanical garden for 50)* Food and drinks: 2k (a few different kinds of meals, bartending, and they’re including rentals like linens, flatware, etc)* Photographer $900 (on the low end, but the reviews are stellar, and we’re including a photo-sharing app that guests can use)* Cake and Florals: my mother is actually making our cake and bouquets, as she’s planned and executed plenty of weddings in the past (big family lol)* DJ: $900 (again, can’t stress enough to go through reviews!)* Hair/beauty: 1k (two brides and two bridal parties, so 500 each bride for nails, hair, makeup for everyone)* Invitations/stationary: $300 (Zola auto-mails and designs invites for you at stellar cheap rates depending on what you pick!)* gifts and favors: $200 (stay away from customization/monogrammed stuff, small party favors/handmade favors work just fine! We’re having some small bottles of homemade infused oil and paper fans for the heat)* accommodations: 1.5k (consider things like parking, hotels, travel, etc, etc. I suggest checking around to see what your local hotel rates are, but it wouldn’t hurt to get hotel blocking for at least half your guests set up to save everyone some money.)
    Hope this helps!!
