How Boujee did you get?

Jasmin, on December 17, 2020 at 4:48 PM Posted in Planning 1 19

Long story short, my now husband and I post poned our celebration and had a five person marriage this past summer. With the vaccine looking more and more likely, we decided to have our celebration and a vow renewal in July 2021.

These past few months I've let my husband sink thousands and thousands of dollars into his hobbies and to be honest just was down about our lack of a reception. Now that it's back on, my hubby has said we can do whatever I want to make up for Covid stealing our vision and for the amount of money he's spent on his interests.

My question is how boujee did you get for your wedding? As a surprise gift, he bought me Christian Louboutin shoes for the day of and worked with my mom to get me to buy a new dress (another very long story I've posted on this site before lol). All of our orignial vendors were paid for and available and we picked a more "unique" party site.

He's asked if I want more flowers or lights but I really don't. But then again I'm ready for a bash that people will talk about for-ev-er. Anyone have any ideas on how to "go all out"?

Also, please keep your comments about my entitlement or snotty attitude to yourself. We've worked damn hard for amazing jobs where we are blessed to have a comfortable life.

Wow, I was with completely you until the end. What a statement to add to a completely normal post asking for advice! I am now thinking that anything I might suggest won't be fancy or expensive enough ("Boujee"??) for your taste.

I do know that trying to have a "bash that people will talk about for-ev-er" is kind of an unreachable goal. You are better off just planning things you and your husband will enjoy so you won't be disappointed if your guests aren't thrilled enough.

The things that your guests are going to care about are the things that affect them. Not your dress or fancy shoes that likely no one will see. Host your guests well. Provide great food, drinks, and music, and your guests will be happy.

I totally get you about the comments..People are going to feel salty either way about how extravagant yours will be because they cant..
If you can have your fairytale wedding then do it. Go all out but within reason.. A Beautiful dress with Louboutins. Wowwzers. If i could walk in them i would. L

Little details to splurge on can be plated with a higher price/better cut of meat. Favors that are personalized to how ever many guests you may have. My venue offers a painter to paint a scene from our wedding. A champagne wall or a nice backdrop for photos with possible mr & mrs. Shuttles to and from the venue to hotel. How Boujee did you get? 1

I agree with Caytlyn- guests usually only care about and remember the things that directly affect them and their experience. If you have money to blow, I would sink a lot of it into an insanely good meal, top shelf open bar all night, and an amazing DJ. However, if you want to “go all out” and have them talking about your wedding for years to come, I would also splurge on entertainment (or even multiple forms of entertainment ) for guests. And people usually don’t remember your decor unless it’s super over the top or really unique (think specialty lighting, smoke machines, indoor spark fountains, flower cannons, confetti blasts, etc). Adding those unique items that no one else has is what is going to set your wedding apart from others.

If you want to add extra things, I would add things to enhance your guests experience. They won't notice if you do things over the top for yourself. I would recommend more food options, top shelf alcohol, an amazing MC/DJ, or more entertainment. I know we had several guests tell us our wedding was the most fun they've ever had at a wedding. We made sure to hire an amazing DJ that would keep the dancing going. He also provided a great photo booth at all of our guests loved.

Yes to the wall! I forgot about those. A big flower picture area would be cute as hell!

We have a great DJ and photo booth already. Did you have anything special about either your guest really loved?

Food and alcohol. That’s honestly what most guests care about for sure. We got cookies from this famous NY bakery for our guests as a favor and they loved it. And one of my favorite wedding they had a candy bar at the end of the night, although I’d do something pre-packaged because of Covid.
You could also add activities for the guests if you don’t have them already: photo booth, maybe some type of entertainment, lawn games etc..
But if you feel like you don’t need anything extra, don’t! I’m sure your guests will have a wonderful time with what you already have planned!!also I want to see the Louboutins...

So our DJ has been a DJ for over twenty years so he was really good at reading the room. We wanted a party like atmosphere and he gave us just that. At one point, he gave us a microphone and we were singing karaoke and at another he gave those on the dance floor maracas and we all danced in a large group. He also made sure not to really include any of those cheesy songs like the chicken dance.

For the photo booth, he provided tons of fun props. He also provided multiple copies of each photo and an online gallery so we or guests could print out more copies. As well as a photo book that guests could include a photo in and write a message for us to see.

Great venue, great food, amazing wine, nice music, maybe even a surprise entertainment for guest? A friend of mine had a game in their wedding. “Who knows the groom best” (family excluded from game) and they gifted the winner a $500 cash! That was very exciting game and everyone was laughing hard at some funny questions. We won’t forget that!

The only things guests notice or care about is the couple being gracious hosts with good food, drinks they don't have to pay for and great entertainment. Also no gap between the ceremony and reception.

The things about my wedding that guests still talk about are the live band, the food, and the alcohol. Especially the live band! I wouldn't consider my wedding to be "boujee," but it was very expensive and formal and we did go all out in these areas, as well as with flowers. We spent more money on flowers than we did on our entire honeymoon, and we went to Greece for 12 days (however, this was our parents' doing: we paid for our own honeymoon and they paid for most of the wedding, so the decision to spend so much on flowers was theirs, not ours). I agree with Michelle above me, that the things guests care about most are food, drink, and entertainment.

Girl do it up!!! I like the flower wall idea and heck if you can attach glasses of champagne to then do it!!! I don’t know if something can be too boujee. Do any and everything you think we make it a great time for you, your FH, and your guests.

Maybe you can add something fancy to the menu for dinner or even add different dessert options. (Ex: upgrade to a dual plate) If you're having open bar you can provide top shelf alcohol, people will definitely enjoy that lol.

I had a pretty good wedding cost in terms of the amount of people i had and my budget. but i will say i felt like i obviously could have done far less haha. my original budget was only half of what i ended up spending but i went bougee because i wanted the right food and in order to do that i needed to up my budget. i literally doubled my budget purely to get bougee food. and then i upgraded that menu too!
