How comfortable should a wedding dress be?

Silvia, on September 27, 2018 at 2:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I am 3 weeks away from my wedding. My dress is absolutely beautiful, only one problem, I had to have a lot of alterations done on it and even then although beautiful it is not 100 percent comfortable. Yesterday was my second fitting and I decided to have the seamstress add sleaves instead of strapless, I nearly cried from the beauty of it. I thought I would have lost more weight in time for the wedding but although Iv'e been working my butt off.. no luck Smiley sad . Should a wedding dress be 100 percent comfortable? Considering the money AND time constraint that is upon me, I feel my only option is to work with the dress and the seamstress.

I think its really important for your dress to be comfortable. Are you able to breathe and stuff? Are you planning to change for your reception?

I was planning to wear the dress all night long. Next week is my last fitting and I guess I will go from there.

Im going to wear my dressing until after first dance and pictures after that I will change into a different dress. I dont want anyone to mess up my wedding dress by accidently stepping on the train.

Just communicate to your seamstress that it is uncomfortable and see what she can do. I had my dress taken out a bit to make it more comfortable.

This is really up to the bride. My dress wasn't particularly comfortable but I took that into account when we bought it. I figured it is one day out of my life and I wanted to look great so I'd tough it out! I wore that dress for hourssssss and when I got to the afterparty at the hotel I planned on changing but I still didn't even want to take it off because I loved it so much!

For me, it was totally fine but some brides do (understandably) want to be comfortable wearing their dress all day.

Well it shouldn't feel like you're wearing pajamas (unless that's your vibe, of course!) but you should be able to have a good time! Can you breathe? Can you sit down? Is a potty break so intimidating that you'd consider wearing a diaper?! (Ok, kidding about that one) Most formal wear - wedding or not - will have some kind of level of "uncomfortable." But if it feels good enough that it won't distract you from your day and you feel good wearing it - you're set. But if there is a question of comfort where you're worried that it will distract you from actually enjoying your day - bring it up to your seamstress! They may have a few ideas, tips or tricks to help you feel your best.

Most wedding dresses are not the most comfortable thing you wear but you should not be so uncomfortable that you are thinking about it. Like if you are constantly thinking about how you can't move or sit or the sequins are annoying you then I would consider that too much. The first dress I tried on was a hard no because of the itchy sequins.

I had the Seamstress add a bustle for me. I'm hoping that adding the sleeves and running my butt off this week will make my dress more comfortable for the event Smiley winking. Since it is about a 5 hour wedding and due to the timeline, leaving the reception to change isn't really fitting into the schedule- feeling so much anxiety.

Hi Silvia! Your dress is gorgeous! Can you sit, stand, breathe? Smiley heart Agreeing with Kristin, it's up to you. As long as you are not uncomfortable and it's okay with you, you feel beautiful, and are okay to dance the night away, it will be perfect. Smiley heart

I think this will depend on what makes it uncomfortable, is it itchy, too tight, etc. I don't think these dresses are meant to feel like nothing, they can get heavy and the veil will add to that, I mean you should not though feel like you just can't wait to take it off either. I plan to rock my baby from the moment I put it on until the very end of my night.
