Mine was a complete surprise! My fiancé knew one of my favorite things to do around the holidays was go to the Christkindlmarket in Chicago; so he planned at
whole day in Chicago for us. (little did I know, he had asked my dad's permission about a month prior!) We ate seafood at Navy Pier (my fave view of the city!), and he made sure to get a table by the window so we could watch the sunset. Then we went to Daly Plaza for the Christkindlmarket where we drank warm spiced wine and checked out all the cool shops. At the end of the evening, we went back to Navy pier where we’d parked. And just when I thought the day couldn’t possibly get any better... he got down on one knee! The city skyline was lit up behind him and I could not have asked for a more gorgeous setting! Later, he told me he had planned on asking someone to take a photo for us, then proposing... but he was so nervous he totally forgot! LOL So I do not have pictures of the actual proposal. But I do have pictures from that day that I will forever cherish. This was the beginning of our dayHow Did They Pop The Question? 💍 1

This was about 10 minutes before he proposed. He said he was sweating bullets at this point 😂How Did They Pop The Question? 💍 2

And this was right after the proposal ❤️💍

I was expecting it. He did it very casually and in private. I'm not into the having an audience.

It was a total surprise to me! We had talked about the topic earlier on in our relationship, and agreed that marriage wasn't for us. He apparently changed his mind later, but didn't tell me. We went on a weekend trip for our 5-year dating anniversary, and on the last night of the trip, he completely shocked me with a proposal after dinner while we were watching the sunset over a lake.

My fiancé proposed in Sweden 🇸🇪 at a castle 🏰 in the snowy botanical garden. Had no idea until he walked down - well slipped down the snowy stairs to take a picture, I got that feeling! Was visiting him as we did a long distance relationship for 5 years... 🤍

It’s great that he knows you well enough to know you wouldn’t want an audience for your proposal, and proposed in a way that was very “you” 💕

Oh my gosh, same here! I had made it very known early on in our relationship that I “wasn’t the marrying kind“ and he was totally cool with it. 2 years later... and we were engaged! Haha Was your guy super nervous to propose since he had changed his mind and didn’t know if you had?? I seriously thought mine was going to have a panic attack 😂

I love Chicago! There’s just so much to do, and the city is absolutely beautiful! Do you live in the area? We are about 1.5 - 2 hrs from the city

In early September we went to the store and I tried on some rings (I had never tried anything on before so this was a REALLY good idea for us--all the rings I'd been sending him for the past few years were COMPLETELY different than what I chose in the end). Ended up picking a custom out and the sales manager took down my size information & the details about the ring. My fiance went back a week or so later and purchased it, and I knew the timeline would be 4-6 weeks from that date for him to receive it from the store. I was so on edge for WEEKS, always making sure I looked cute when we left our apartment just in case he had it and was planning on popping the question (despite him telling me he didn't have it yet). When he finally did it -- I genuinely had NO clue because he had told me for that entire week leading up to the proposal that he didn't have it yet and that he called the store and they said it would be a few more weeks (I figured -- okay that makes sense considering the time of year with everyone gearing up for Christmas proposals). Little did I know, he had the ring for an entire week after he told me it wasn't ready and kept up with the fibs to throw me off!! So after being on edge for over a month, I 100% wasn't expecting it to happen at all on the day it did, but luckily he talked me out of changing my outfit before we left our apartment that morning (wanted to switch into leggings and be comfy LOL) and he did it right after my hair appointment HAHA. I was being my usual argumentative self and didn't want to walk a certain way (I knew there would be students up on the campus lawn and wanted to avoid people as much as I could because of covid) so when he wouldn't listen to me and kept walking, I followed after him and he finally let me in front of him when we were rounding a corner and pretended like he saw something on the ground. When I turned around he was on his knee, holding the ring out toward me! I was in disbelief for a good five seconds, not realizing he was being serious!!! He did such a good job surprising me, even after we picked out my ring together, that I don't think anything else he could have planned would have been even half as perfect Smiley smile Smiley heart

(also was so excited about the proposal I forgot to take my sticker off that I'd just stuck on myself two mins before he got down on his knee LOL)

Omg, my guy was super nervous! Or at least, he told me afterwards that he'd been terrified all day, and that he kept debating asking earlier than he originally planned just to get it over with so he could stop being nervous lol. He did a great job of hiding it though, I can normally easily tell what his mood is, and I definitely didn't notice anything off that day. Did your guy know you changed your mind? Or did he also ask without knowing what your answer would be?

I sort of expected it cause he was acting really sketch all of a sudden. He proposed on a cruise with his parents. Captains night and we were all dressed up. To throw me off his scent, earlier that day, he surprised me with a PS4 controller (cause he only had one and I wanted to play too!) lol.

After dinner we went to the top deck for photos and that's when he popped the question. He had apparently been planning for months prior. It was super sweet and he was so nervous.

It was a surprise! We’ve talked for long time about marriage and children. I showed him a ring I loved on Etsy and never really imagined he’d get something untraditional. We visited my family & were at my childhood softball field watching my niece. He proposed to me at short stop (my position) in front of my family & our puppy, with the ring I showed him! He asked my dad a day or two before. That field is very special to me so it was perfect. Photo credit to my brother in law who has no idea what was going to happen who had his camera ready to photograph his daughter playing. ❤️

We had gotten to the point where I was trying to murder people who asked why we weren't engaged yet. (I'm not kidding, friends would cut people off for asking, because I'd get that Look on my face.) But we'd been talking about it *forever*, knew we wanted to get married in 2019, AND DH LEFT IT UNTIL DECEMBER 31.

I mean, at Christmas, he said my gift was late, and I just flat out asked, "is it for my hand, or my ears", because I knew it was jewelry and I wanted to know which one.

But he had gotten SUPER SQUIRRELLY starting in November, so I knew something was up. And he kept getting squirrellier and squirrellier, the longer the holiday season went on, to the point that I was *crying* to friends. (...The same friends he was plotting with, the poor dears.)

So, we (usually) have a big NYE party with our friends. During that party, we play a game called Topfschlagen, where gifts are hidden under a pot, and a blindfolded someone has to find it with a spoon. The problem is that SOs usually choose each other.

    Let me back up.

I had *walked into this party* saying, "is he going to propose to me? If not, I need help hiding a body". ALL OF MY FRIENDS SAID NO. (Some of them were very bad at lying, which was even worse.) Yet, every single person that came into the party was taken aside and told something.

Then we play the game. DH is chosen early. And he SKIPS ME. Me, to my friend who can't lie to save her life: "I'm being set up." Friend: "Um. Uh. NO?" Me: "I'm being set up." Friend: *looks to rest of party, help???*

Every single person who plays the game is told something in their ear. Me: I AM BEING SET UP HERE.

    I get picked last.

DH STANDS UP. I cover for him by handing him my glasses.

I'm spun around, I find the pot, take off the blindfold. I am now on the floor, kneeling, and DH is sitting in a totally different chair. I turn over the pot, and there's a box.

    Me: I KNEW IT.

DH: HOLD UP, that's not your ring! ...Your ring is delayed, this is a loaner.

THEN he gives a very nice speech, quotes Moonstruck, and asks me.

I say yes, we kiss, our friends cheer.

Friend who can't lie: REBECCA, YOU CAN'T JUST ASK PEOPLE IF YOU'RE GETTING PROPOSED TO!!!

...don't try to surprise me, it really, really doesn't work.

My husband planned an anniversary/birthday trip for us to go to Miami. He definitely went all out, got us an AMAZING suite, planned things for us to do, made reservations for us everyday etc. We went to dinner on our anniversary date and he said he wanted to exchange our gifts there. Right before the exchange, he said he needed to go to the bathroom. I thought nothing of it but turns out he was really nervous that's why he had to walk away lol. We were sitting in a booth so I stood up to let him back in and he ended up getting on one knee and popped the question. It was AMAZING. Of course everyone clapped and congratulated us. I was definitely surprised because he does not like attention at all. Now the date we started dating, the date he proposed, and the date we got married are all the same Smiley heart Smiley heart Smiley heart
