How did you add a cash fund option

Lucy, on October 16, 2023 at 1:18 PM Posted in Account Support 1 12
Trying to create a cash fund as the gift option for our registry. How did people do this ? Would prefer to use Zelle or Venmo to prevent fees through other third parties. Thanks !

Hi Lucy! WeddingWire partners with Traveler's Joy which has a honeymoon registry (which is basically just a cash registry). Or if you've already started a cash registry somewhere else you can also add a link to that registry in the text section of your website page!

Sorry to say there really is no polite way. In circles where cash gifts are common people know how to send money or write a check. Traditional etiquette disapproves and likewise there are still many people who will side eye a cash or honeymoon registry, dislike being prompted to give money and/or consider it crass. At least with a physical registry there is the premise that the registry is a list meant for the couple’s reference, not exclusively a wish list. With a cash registry you leave no room for doubt.

The wedding industry has other priorities and considerations so of course there are always going to be ways to do what you’re asking. The better alternative IMO is simply not registering for wedding gifts at all. If asked where you’re registered or for what you’d say you have everything you need and are saving up for a larger goal. People will get the hint.

I have heard of people doing this. Was wondering the same thing. Wedding wire had an article... can't find it now. Anyways, i think people basically had 2 different fund for giving such as honeymoon fund, house fund, baby fund, etc.. And throw in some gifts. Once the gifts are no longer available to choose your other guest will give to the fund of their choice.

Is it a general cash fund or going towards something specific? My entire registry is just a Honeyfund registry where people can contribute towards different experiences on our honeymoon. We chose that site because they do not charge any fees to guests or the couples. And I really liked how you can break down the experiences people are contributing to.

I also have to just laugh at all the people who come on here to authoritatively declare that cash funds are rude. I think that’s a generational thing, but I don’t consider it in any way rude. My fiancé and I already live together and have everything at home that we need. Contributing towards an experience on a honeymoon just fees like such a better and more special use of money than asking for pots and pans and what not.

Thank you Sam this is helpful ! And yes it general and it’s whatever people want to put in. I feel you on that, if you already live together and have majority of the house stuff down why force yourself to add household goods that you already in. It’s all still spending money just differently.

Thanks Jeniffer and so far I’ve learnt that you can add a new category and do it that way. Yes that’s the ideal way to give variety especially when you don’t have a lot of house stuff you need.

While there is merit in what you say. I for one don’t like writing checks or carrying cash. I like the guarantee that the gift is wired directly and can get to the couple earlier ( and even help into their planning). It’s an unorthodox way of doing it but so is many things in the wedding industry and trends coming up to make the already stressful process seamless. I think gifts are not mandatory nor is money but the option to gift people the appropriate way is a nice guidance. It’s more awkward for me personally to have people come ask us what we want, ithe registry removes this transaction entirely and they can proceed as they see best fit. Thank you for you perspective.

It is not a generational thing, it is a manners thing. Asking for money is extremely rude.

If I see a cash registry, the couple gets a random gift that is a fraction of what I would normally give.

Just curious why then even give a gift if you’re not going to give them something they need or wholeheartedly. Tangible or non tangible gift, they’re both optional and the point of giving a gift (if you so choose) is to get them started, some couples are established so the money tends to go a longer way with bigger life goals.

Buying a gift is also spending money might as well just deposit directly through the platform they provided if it’s what would help them. Especially after spending on the money
Your analogy on asking for money is rude, is a little flawed because one can argue the same for asking for a specific gift. I think people who tend to think this way like to see a physical tangible contribution - rubbing off as something that they’re doing for themselves vs for the couple. At that point, might as well not get anything.
Just another perspective to think about and my personal two cents.

Lol that’s the most petty thing I have ever heard of. You are the rude one for behaving so bizarrely. A registry is ALSO asking for money. Money that goes towards specific items. A Honeyfund is asking for money that goes towards an experience.

Lol. Super revengeful of you to literally downgrade your gift because you see that the couple has a cash fund option. Couples spend 10's of thousands of dollars on their wedding and then include you as a guest & you turn around and act this way??? I bet if they knew you so petty of a person, you wouldn't even received an invite in the first place.

A registry is a guide, there are several different options for gifts. It isn't saying " Give me money".
