Hey everyone My FH and I have only been engaged a short while and I still havent said anything on facebook lol (I'm not a huge facebook user - and yes we have told friends and family). So was just wondering how you all announced it on fb? Did you just simply change your status or include a pic...

Hey everyone Smiley smile

My FH and I have only been engaged a short while and I still havent said anything on facebook lol (I'm not a huge facebook user - and yes we have told friends and family). So was just wondering how you all announced it on fb? Did you just simply change your status or include a pic much like what people see on Pinterest?

There are some really cute (without being over the top corny) ideas out there so was just curious to see what everyone else did

FH proposed in January of this year he changed his status maybe 2 months ago to only "engaged" not stating to who but obviously they know we're together lol I still have no status because to me personally the friends and family who witnessed it that day already knew, we called immediate family and other friends. I told FH I wanted to post our professional E-pics as a way to announce it and make it a bit different and to me special. I have a few ideas for our pictures so I thought it'd be nice to make it "official" on Facebook that way lol

Changed relationship status, slightly mushy post, pictures, change of profile picture. You've earned it! Don't feel bad about sharing your happy news!

We got engaged on a 2 week trip to Scotland & Germany. He popped the question on the second day of the trip while in one of our favorite places in Scotland. We didn't have decent phone service throughout the trip, so we held off on announcing it on FB until we returned. Plus, we aren't too big on social media, so we wanted to keep this little secret mostly private for a bit. We txted all of our family about it after a few hours--we hiked the rest and then back down Arthur's Seat and then went to celebratory lunch, and did some shopping, and then went back to the hotel where we would have wifi-enabled phone service. We had our parents reach out to those whom we could not reach with our phone service availability before we came home, that way they weren't out of the loop. Then, after we had returned home to the States, we announced it on FB with a couple pictures, a post, and status changes. My extended family is huge, very close to each other, and spread out throughout the Eastern US, and we all keep in touch through FB (mostly).

We met up with my fiancé's family once we got to Germany, and my future extended German family were actually some of the very first people to know--since we saw them before returning.

Agree with "SunshineJenn"--be prepared for a bucket-load of notifications. We live a decent distance away from any family members--so their communication of congratulatory sentiments all came via FB.

My FH tricked me into our engagement shoot. He's a model/photographer and was doing a weekend of shoots with his friend who is also a photographer. I was there to help out with stuff. In between shoots, my FH goes, "Hey, wanna do a silly couple's shoot making fun of cheesy couple photos? Awkward/uncomfortable poses and all?" We have never done a shoot together so I jumped at the chance. His friend shot it for us.

A week later he proposed then told me, "Hey, you know that shoot we did last week? Those are our engagement photos".

So the next day he just posted on facebook "Holy sh**, we're getting married!" and included his favourite shots from the day. He was one of those "I'm never getting married/bachelor life forever" kind of guys, so just the post alone was shocking enough for everyone. So much so, several people were convinced it was a joke or just him making a funny caption based on his latest photo shoot.

Instead of facebook (since I no longer have one), here was the announcement on instagram. For context, my FH is an artist...

My FH sneakily had his dad recording when he proposed and afterward, he posted it on Facebook. They didn't want me to know that his dad was recording so he didn't have the recording light on which sucks because he proposed at night on the top deck of a cruise ship so the video is pretty dark

We waited about a month to make it "FB official". There was a group of ladies I really wanted to tell in person and we were all getting together about a month after FH proposed. We told our families right away though. I asked FH's sisters not to mention anything on FB until I gave the okay. Once I told my girls in person I changed my status and posted a new picture of FH & I from the Cruise we took the month before. Once FH's sisters saw that they did the rest of the leg work for me posting about being so excited for a new sister etc.

Make sure your profile pics and most recent photos together are either of the engagement, a ring shot, or just adorable photos of you two together, and then change the relationship status right in the same second or two. Your most recent photos together and your profile pics will pop up on that status change, and you might not want to have a random candid of the two of you gardening or house painting (looking a whole mess) stuck to that status that everyone is going to see! I'm a fairly private person and FH doesn't use facebook so we simply didn't announce. I don't regret it, mostly it's people in real life that make it weird or say unnecessary things.
