How did you assemble your invites? (Post pics if you have 'em!)

MrsPoutine, on December 14, 2015 at 5:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17

So FH and I ordered our invites and RSVP cards from vistaprint (the rsvp cards are business-card size). We are planning to have an inner and outer envelope as well.

I'm trying to get some ideas for how to attach the invite and card together. String? Ribbon? I don't particularly like the idea of pockets since we have no other stuff (plus extra postage). I would love some inspiration!

For reference I've attached my own invites below.

I don't know if this will be very helpful, but we just plan to put everything in the envelope. In fact, out of the 4 wedding invitations we received the past two years, one used a pocket fold and the rest were all just put into the envelope. I say this because you are worried about postage costs, and even ribbon/string/belly bands will possibly increase the cost. My point is that there is absolutely no reason that you have to attach them Smiley smile. Just a thought!

OP, your invites are very beautiful! I love the design. I haven't created my invites yet, but I purchased some blank "card" material cards. I've asked my FMIL to watercolour a floral design in my colours to scan and I will use to create my invite design. She asked me earlier if she could do anything to help, and she is wonderful at watercolour pictures so I thought it would be a great way to use her talents.

Futuremrsc715 that's a very good point. I'm just worried since the card is smaller than a normal rsvp card, that if it's not attached in some way to the invite that people might miss it inside the envelope.

I think that as long as you put it in front of the invitation it will stand out and people should see it, since they are different colors. One of the ones we received had small song request cards and a QR code for their WedPics app and we saw all of them. Btw I love your invitations!

People will expect to see an RSVP card, as they're standard in most wedding invitations. If they happen to miss it the first time around, I'd guess they'd go back in the envelope to look for it. That's what I'd do at least! And this is a great question because I'm having the same problem. I thought about getting pockets but the ones from cards and pockets don't actually fit a regular vistaprint invite without having to do some fine trimming. It's a little frustrating but it has made me realize that maybe they just aren't necessary and I can get away just putting everything in he envelope.

Your post made me look at vista print for the first time and I'm seriously considering buying our stuff this week now! It's so much cheaper than most places I've looked AND the designs are so much cuter! I am just planning on putting everything in one envelope but I do have one question, do the RSVPs come with their own envelopes to return them in or are the guest responsible for their own envelope?

You could tie a ribbon around it to keep it together. That way the smaller inserts won't get overlooked. A thin ribbon probably won't affect postage.

Just came to say 1) they are beautiful and 2) good idea on making the RSVP business card size, b.c that will definitely save you a lot of money on postage......

and on that note, 3) are you giving them the option to mail the RSVP back? it doesn't look like it. so then I guess you don't have to worry about postage and extra envelopes.

ETA, disregard # 3 b.c I didn't read no extra postage on your original comment.

We're doing inner and outer envelopes so I'll probably just put everything in the inner envelope and call it a day. Nothing I've seen so far has appealed to me :/

I didn't attach them in any way. I put the RSVP card under the RSVP envelope's flap, laid the hotel card on top of that, and put both of those on top of the invitation. I'm not sure if anything shifted while being mailed, but it was impossible to miss the RSVP card. And like others have said, people expect to see it.

@Diana we are doing entirely online RSVPs. All of our guests are tech savvy enough, even my grandparents, haha. I will probably have to chase down stragglers but that seems to be the case regardless of RSVP method...

@Courtney I'm fairly certain they come with their own envelope free. Mine didn't come with envelopes because they aren't actually RSVP cards, but business cards.

All you ladies bring up excellent points about people expecting an RSVP card anyway! If I find something cute to tie them together before I mail them out I will, but I won't stress over it.

@Courtney, the vistaprint RSVP cards do come with their own envelopes and you can even have them pre-addressed which is really nice.

I love the RSVP business card idea. Since you have an inner envelope you're probably ok without tying it together. I would probably use tulle ribbon to tie them together if you decide to. It should be rather lite. Honestly, I would mock one up with ribbon and one without and weigh them to see if it pushed you into a different postage weight. If it doesn't, use ribbon.

I ordered mine from Vistaprint as well and the RSVP's do come with white envelopes (or you can choose matching ones for an additional fee)

Those are beautiful! I love the look of them.

I'm not tying ours together, or using a pocket of any kind. We've got an invite, an RSVP card, and detail insert (seperate ceremony and reception location) and a return RSVP envelope. I'll just layer them nicely, so everyone can see the different pieces.
