How did you choose your walk down the aisle song?

Future Mrs. R, on January 10, 2015 at 2:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 22

I thought I had a song but I think I am going to change it. I am on song #3. I don't want it too fast but not too slow either. I also want something with anticipation.

Mine was an easy choice. I heard a piano version of a Pink Floyd song that was beautiful (FH LOVES Pink Floyd) and I just knew it was right!

I'm using a massive attack song. It came on once and we knew it was right.

I chose "Only Exception" by Paramore. It has a really nice romantic beat and the lyrics really do fit our relationship. Smiley smile

I have chosen "Two of Us-The Beatles". The Beatles are FHs favourite and I'm going to surprise him by walking down the aisle to one of their songs. I didn't want the usual "All You Need is Love" or "Here Comes the Sun". The one I picked is probably a weird one to walk down the aisle to, but it's about love and friendship, so I thought it was a great choice.

My song is "Liz on Top of the World" from the movie Pride and Prejudice. It takes my breath away everytime I see the movie or hear it. I've known for a long time that would be my song.

ETA: And luckily my dear cousin, who is playing the piano for our ceremony, already has the music from the movie!

I was browsing, found it, sent it to FH and we knew it was perfect. Makin' Plans by Miranda Lambert

Trust me, you'll go through a ton of different songs before you find the right one.

We have to pick from a list provided by the church. If not I would have walked to our song since it's too upbeat for our first dance.

My song to walk down the aisle to will be "By Your Side" by Sade. I listen to that song and sounds like me talking to the FH. I will always be by his side.

I am not too worried about the ceremony song choices.

We are having a solo cello so some songs won't work. Our cellist has sent a pretty great list of songs he has done solo like the Princess Bride theme, and some Beatles songs.

I have also asked him if he may be able to include Everlong-The Foo Fighters somewhere, but it may not be quite right for a solo cello.

I am having a hard time picking the song I'm walking down the aisle to. I'm putting a lot of stress on it and I think that's what is making it so hard for me. I listen to wedding songs pandora a lot and that is giving me ideas. I'm leaning towards instrumental but I'm still not 100% sure. I would say if it is something that makes you emotional right now, it's perfect because it will mean even more on that day.

Back when we first started dating, we did the cheesy mix CD thing for each other. One of the songs on the CD he made for me is "Angel" by Aerosmith. I love the idea of appearing at the end of the aisle in my white dress and veil like the "Angel" he nicknamed me in the beginning (though he hasn't called me that in years). The tempo and feeling is right for what I wanted. I will likely do the instrumental version, but that could change.

@MrsT - it's actually an odd choice as the song itself isn't a happy one - but it's a piano version of the intro to Great Gig in the Sky.

This isn't the exact version we're using (I'm on my iPad and the link is saved on my laptop) but it's close. We're only using like the first minute though.

I'm walking to Vitamin String Quartet's cover of Us Against the World by Coldplay. FH likes it and I'm a big VSQ fan!

I've always had this thing for Temper Trap (that's the band) and their song Sweet Disposition. I don't know it always just felt right to walk down the aisle to that. If you listen to the song, you kinda can't understand what he's saying, so here are the lyrics:

    Sweet Disposition

    Never too soon

    Oh reckless abandoned

    Like no one's

    Watching you

    A moment, a love, a dream, a laugh

A kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs

    A moment, a love, a dream, a laugh

    A moment, a love, a dream, a laugh

    So stay there

    Cause I'll be coming over

And while our bloods still young

    It's so young it runs

We won't stop till it's over

    Won't stop to surrender

    Songs of desperation

    I played them for you

    A moment, a love, a dream, a laugh

A kiss, a cry, our rights, our wrongs

    A moment, a love, a dream, aloud

    A moment, oh...

JHazel - I adore that soundtrack. I listen to it often to fall asleep. Great song.

I walked down to the Throne Room song from Star Wars Episode IV. I decided that would be my wedding song when I was 5 - almost 32 years ago.

I chose the instrumental version of There You'll Be by Faith Hill. My dad passed away in 2011 and I wanted a song that would give me the feeling that he's there walking me down the aisle. My dad got sick in 2010 when I was finishing my Bachelors. He told anyone who would listen that his baby was going to be an attorney. He also told them that he was going to get better to come to FL to watch me walk across that stage. Well I finally got my Bachelors (not my Juris Doctorate - working on that now) in 2012 but he passed in 2011. I am the first of ANY in my family to get a college degree (no one on either side of my family has a college degree - my parents didn't even finish high school). My dad passed in September of 2011. When I went up to MD to say my goodbyes (hospice was called in), he hugged me before I left and apologized to me because he knew he was dying and wouldn't be there to watch me walk across the stage. My heart just sank. So the following August when I graduated, my sister was there and she had bought me a graduation card before my dad passed and he signed it. She gave me that along with a plaque that said sent straight from heaven and a CD with Faith Hill's song on it. Every time I hear that song I tear up. No one at the ceremony will know what this song means to me, but I will. I'm sure I'll cry but you know what? I'm going to cry anyway and at least I'll feel like he's there walking me down the aisle.

That is a touching story. So what if you cry? Utilize that waterproof makeup! Your dad will be with you. Congrats on your educational endeavors. My dad was much the same way as yours was. He would tell ANYONE who'd stop to listen I was going to grad school. He was so insanely proud of me, it embarrassed and touched me at the same time. Give it up to our loving dads, who are probably up in the heavens still bragging about us Smiley smile

I am a huge geek, and I am sneaking that geekiness into the wedding. My favorite game and game soundtrack is Final Fantasy VII. I will be walking down to the orchestral version of Arieth's Theme.

I'm going to get my geekiness in less subtly at the reception during our entrance, were the Final Fantasy VI victory fanfare will play. After 10+ years, it IS a victory, LOL
