How did you choose your wedding colors?

Skylar, on February 1, 2024 at 9:17 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 27
Hi all! I'm curious to know how you chose your wedding colors (and what your colors will be). For example, blue has always been my favorite color, so I knew pretty much my whole life that I would somehow incorporate blue into my wedding. I have decided on a palette of ivory, silver, light blue, navy, and grass green.

I thought about my favorite colors, the time of year, and my bridesmaids. I’d always thought about either a burgundy and forest green fall wedding or a blue and silver January one. When we decided on January, I debated a few shades of blue and picked one that all my bridesmaids would look good in. So I ended up with sapphire blue, white, and silver.

I started with flowers. I didn't want to spend a fortune on florals, so I looked up what flowers would be in season at the time of our wedding and what colors they were. Our wedding was in the summer, so zinnias, dahlias, cosmos, and celosia were in season, and they come in a range of really vibrant colors. Then I looked up a color wheel and settled on a range of purple (because it's my favorite) to red-orange for the flower colors. Since the flowers were going to be brightly colored, I went with jewel tones for the dresses. I gave my MOH a choice of colors that matched the flowers and my bridesmaids a choice of colors that were complementary to the flowers. We ended up picking orchid, jade, ink blue, and eucalyptus from Azazie.

I actually planned around my dress which was waaaay different then I thought it would be-and way different then the theme I was originally going for but not too far off. Normally I go for moody colors but this is more elegant and simplified than my original idea and I actually like it better.

My dress is ivory and has light blue flowers. Here’s my vision board How did you choose your wedding colors? 2

Hi Skylar! We have picked a tipi for our venue. Our venue is pretty new. We originally picked a burnt orange. I know it’s very fall for July but a colour is a colour isn’t it. All we seen at our venue was sage green and burnt orange so it kind of put us off. We went for one final visit and black popped into our heads. Black, white, cream and gold. Black for the bridesmaids and the napkins and the writing on our signs. White for flowers. Gold touches here and there and it’s all came together beautifully. Easy as that.

I fell in love with coral sunset peonies and really wanted to make those my main flower and thought coral would be a pretty color for a summer wedding. So I started looking at color schemes involving coral and decided on coral, peach, blush and white. Blue is my fiance's favorite color so I also wanted to incorporate that, so we'd doing medium blue for an accent color

I don't feel comfortable posting pictures of my girls without their permission, but here's my inspiration picture. We ended up putting a bow on the flower girl that was a less gray than the color of the skirt in the picture, but it all came together pretty well.

I picked one color, my fiance picked one color and then together we decided on complementing colors to create a cohesive palette.

We’re getting married late Fall or sometime in the winter so we’re going for dark and moody. He picked a dark egg plant purple and I wanted navy blue. We both wanted to pair our color with hunter green so we just decided to combine it into a trio. We going to add metallics, lots of greenery, white flowers and sage/lilac accents so it’s not too heavy and dark. Basically it’s going to be a unique combination of the following Pinterest collages: How did you choose your wedding colors? 4
