We wanted an elegant, and formal wedding, that was the entire thing. Most was accomplished by choosing a big inn that was once a wealthy family's home, and was very nicely furnished against a backdrop of large high ceilinged rooms with original wood paneling and moldings, fireplaces with quartz fireplace surrounds and such. So we only chose colors for clothing, and the rest accessorized or added flowers to go with what was there. And spent our time on food and presentation and extra service, rather than buying much. And live music. I like other weddings with an understated theme. But find a lot rather like a children's party. 250 little objects to do with a baseball team that do not give A hint of the movement or excitement of a game, are like a little guy in a gorilla costume. And people doing a 20 minute fight of space creatures, with hundreds of dollars props, or the bride and groom as Raggedy Ann and Andy, or a renaissance faire setting, so much work, so little appreciated. People want to be comfortable, they want choices in food, a setting pleasing to the eye. They want to talk and talk, often drink and dance. The rest can just be background. And not intrusive, requiring you be led through games and activities, better done at a shower.

You definitely don't need a theme. We had a color scheme and it changed once I saw these marble invites that we ended up getting. Now our main colors are black and white with pops of navy, wine and silver trimming.

No you don't NEED one. My husband and I just came up with colors for both our minimony and our wedding. We didn't choose a theme though

I stumbled across one that I wound up loving, but I wasn't planning on one. I was just going to pick my colors and flowers and then match the decor, etc. I say it's you and your fiancé's day, the two of you should do what you want 😊

You absolutely do not need a theme. For us, we don't have a "theme" in mind. We have our chosen colors and will be making other decisions based on what we like and don't like, but are not sticking to a particular theme. At the end of the day, as long as you are happy with how it comes out, then that is all that matters.

No you don't need a theme...I actually didn't know that was a thing until the first time I spoke with my wedding coordinator and she asked what our theme was and I was so confused...I was just like well its a wedding? and its in December? lol I just chose based on the season and a color scheme

A theme is anything from colors to the season to a shared hobby/fandom/etc that you want to decorate around. It's not required but it helps everything look cohesive rather than randomly thrown together.

To come up with one, figure out what your decor vision is and sit down with your fiance to make sure that you are on the same page.

Alot of people say a theme is for proms and kids' birthdays only. But countless weddings have themes and don't resemble a prom or kids' party at all.

I didn't know a wedding theme was needed until a girlfriend inquired about designing my invitations. After a few days and long thoughts, I did come up with "LOVE" for our upcoming wedding. With all the misery and falling out lately in the world, I wanted our guests to see why we fell in love. My hope is for our wedding/reception to bring back love, why we love, and how good love feels. I hope that helps you. Congratulations to you!!
