How Did You Decide On a Wedding Date?

LeKisha, on July 28, 2021 at 5:39 PM Posted in Community Conversations 6 142

I wanted to get married on a date that neither one of us could forget. We decided on Jan 22, 2022 which translates to 1.22.22.

It just seemed right and memorable. New Years was another option but far too expensive to host anything during that timeframe.

How did you and your partner conclude your date?

We picked the venue and saw what dates were available in our desired time range and picked from there.

Yes, we did the same as Lauren. We asked for the venue's availability for Fridays and Saturdays in a 6 month period, then went with a weekend that didn't align to any birthdays, anniversaries (of other people) or other major events currently in our calendar.

We'd have to wait until 2024 if we wanted our anniversary to align with a weekend adjacent day, and we're in our mid-30s and weren't prepared to wait that long, lol.

Add to that, as it is, we are, I would say, 99% going to have to shift our September wedding due to covid cases rising here and current lockdown restrictions. We didn't put our date on any items just in case, nor did we really make the date into a big deal, and I'm grateful for that because it's not going to end up being the date we have. In these uncertain times, I'm more focussed on having the wedding at all, although in normal times, a cool date would be amazing!

I had a few dates I liked in mind, and when the time came to pick a venue, we compared to their availability. Luckily we picked a date far out enough that it was still available! That's how we landed on 10/22/22! This is why I recommend picking a venue as one of the first things people do, the further out your date is, the more likely it will be available. Everything else just kind of falls into place.

We picked our date based on when id be out of school for a long weekend. (Grad school with Saturday classes). The schedule was posted just a few weeks before the semester started it’s kind hard to plan on short notice like that so a holiday weekend seemed like the best bet. We got married January 19, 2019 (1/19/19 ❤️) MLK weekend.
We asked venues straight away if it was available. If it wasn’t we didn’t even look at it.

We knew we wanted to get married on a Saturday next summer so we decided on a venue first, and then got availability from our DJ and photographer that we knew we wanted to use and narrowed it down from there. We decided on July 16, 2022!

We knew we wanted a Saturday and not the cold and we picked 7/22 (2017), but then discovered that his parents would be out of the country on 7/22, so we moved it a week forward and landed on 7/15/17. Then we asked venues if they had our date. If they did, we looked, if not, we passed.

    Pretty much this.

We had a time range and also some time DON'Ts (must have attendees would not be available), and targeted venues that had open dates in the green zone.

I have always wanted a fall wedding and we knew because i'm in my mid 30s that we didn't want to wait till 2023, so we knew that we were going to look in the fall 2022 range, so when we started looking at venues, we looked for availability around then. We actually ended up almost booking somewhere that would have been a spring 2023 wedding, because we loved the venue, but we ended up finding a different one we loved almost as much, more affordable and had multiple dates in the season we wanted.

I wanted October for the fall colors, so we had a 2-3 week time period of when you can usually expect peak color to be. My birthday is October 21, so we didn't want to be too close to that, and wanted a Saturday. So for 2022 we had the 8th or the 15th with the 8th being preferred. We vetoed venues that didn't have it available and went from there.

It's also smack in between my great uncle's birthday (he has Down Syndrome so it's a yearly big deal in our family) and my mom's birthday, so I'm considering doing a small birthday thing for those two at the wedding. Before we confirmed it I made sure my mom was good with spending her birthday weekend doing wedding stuff lol.

My FH and I narrowed it down our choices to about a 2 month time frame between February and March based on when we want to have our anniversary. The end of the winter is usually a rough time for both of us emotionally (we both get Seasonal Affective Disorder aka SAD) and we want to have a reason to go somewhere sunny for a few days and relax. Something to look forward to each winter. 😊☀

Then my FH came up to me and said "I picked our wedding date. I really, really want to get married on 2/22/22. It's a 2's day..." (He chose a Tuesday and didn't see anything wrong with that)🤦‍♀️
I thought about arguing until I realized it was also exactly 2 years to the day he proposed.🤷‍♀️ He doesn't ask for a lot so when we picked our venue and they had that day available we booked it.

It will not be! Just more rustic, wooden lantern centerpieces with a floral wreath around the flameless candle. Ivory table cloths with burgundy napkins. Florals will be different shades of pink, peach and rust, maybe some ivory thrown in there. Bridesmaid will be in burgundy. There will be lawn games and a fire pit, apple cider donuts and ice cream, coffee bar with apple cider and hot cocoa. 😋
