How did you guys choose your wedding colors?

Anna, on March 11, 2021 at 4:43 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

It seems like such a difficult task. I feel like it sets the mood for the whole wedding.

We're having an industrial/city wedding in a warehouse that overlooks the city. So the ceremony will be during sunset and the reception will showcase the city lights and skyline with large windows around the perimeter of the venue. I was thinking a neutral color like a champagne. Some sparkle would be cool too, especially in the sun and to play on the city lights! But I don't know if that would be super annoying for bridesmaids to find dresses in that shade. It would be a mix and match dress situation.

Start with a solid base color and find colors that compliment or that you like.

When I started I really wanted dove grey, navy, and burnt orange.

We've shifted to more nebulous/galaxy themed colors. Deep purple, blue, silver, and pops of red and orange.

Champagne is a great base, a lot of people pair it with eucalyptus green and rose gold to give some depth and shimmer. But really just about everything will go with that. Dusty purple/mauve is also really pretty with Champagne.

Sit down with fiance and browse the color palettes on Pinterest. See what grabs you.

For me personally, I looked at my reception venue and asked myself 'how can I compliment this space without competing with it or taking away from the aesthetic?'.

Our venue is a grand Victorian ballroom with very high, detailed ceilings (with gold inlay) and huge chandeliers - so lots of white and gold. I knew that white florals would add to the 'shiny' factor but would be a bit same-same so I decided on burgundy as my base colour with touches of blush so that our colours would soften the look without adding or detracting from the venue's natural sparkle.

FH and my bridesmaids will be in black so our florals will be the sole source of the colour scheme (and our stationery).

Champagne is a great color since it's a sparkly neutral!

We did navy, copper, grey, sage, ivory, and wood accents. Copper is a difficult color to find, so it took more of a backseat than I would've liked, but I'm glad we still incorporated it (in the flowers, metal pieces, etc.).

Honestly, I picked navy first because I love the color and I gravitate towards earthy tones/neutrals. Did a lot of searching on Pinterest and just looking around, but my sister suggested the copper idea (didn't want rose gold, but that's a popular one too).

    They turned out great!

I looked at photography portfolios of past weddings held at my venue (some Instagram as well). This allowed me to see what other couples at my venue used for their colors and it was very helpful!

We really lucked out and just picked both of our favorite colors since they compliment well. I think champagne would be beautiful if you’re having a wedding in the city during sunset!!

My favorite color combination is black and red. Same for my FH, so as soon as I suggested those 2 he perked up and was all excited about it. Also, our theme is motorcycles and his is black and red. So our colors were basically handed to us on a silver platter.

I like your champagne idea with the industrial vibe. I think something champagne with just a little shimmer would be really lovely and not too over the top or in your face. Depending on the venue you could pair it with a sage green, deep blue, dusty purple, or dark grey. Pinterest is a great resource for finding color combinations that have already been done in weddings so you can see how you actually feel about them together in that setting before committing to certain colors.

I looked at my venue (black and white marble, dark wood bookshelves, and the lights made a gold color in pictures). Those were three colors right there, I knew I wanted a foresty vibe, so greenery. Black, white, gold, greenery. My dress was the accent color, I guess?

It was hard for us since my fiancé was not budging on wanting to wear his Tiffany Blue tie. I really wanted a darker, jewel tone scheme. We settled on deep teal, Tiffany blue & gold. You have to find some starting point, and go from there. Go to the hardware stores and look at paint swatches and see how the colors look together.

Our wedding is in April & we didn’t want pastels or spring colors. He’s a firefighter so we wanted to incorporate those colors. We chose red, charcoal and cream.

The champagne sounds beautiful!! My sister had champagne from David’s Bridal and it is a timeless look!
I chose white, peach and sandy tan. The peach just felt happy, yet soft, romantic to me. The color felt like a classy sunset to me and really loved how it turned out 🌅

We picked our favorite colors and also our favorite team's colors. Luckily they overlapped/went together.

Honestly, it's about what you LIKE, not what you think other people will think looks good.

So, our colors were red, blue, and purple. I'm purple-obsessed, DH likes blue, and our favorite team's main color is red... with blue accents... which make purple.

    Looked great together, actually.

I actually went bridesmaid dress shopping as my very first thing after I got engaged and found dresses that I really liked that were navy with a little gold beading. It was super easy after that! We did navy and gold with lots of white (tablecloths/chairs were white, centerpieces were white and gold, BM/GM were in navy with gold ties or jewelry, and white flowers) Only change I would have made would be more colorful flowers for the BM's, but the classic white was very pretty too.

I think I'm going to do greenery bouquets for bridesmaids with maybe baby's-breath and mine will be a lot of green with some white flowers - eucalyptus green would go really well with that! Maybe champagne, eucalyptus green, with pops of pink/rose gold? or burnt orange? ohh or maybe merlot/red?

    Thanks!

I decided to incorporate me and my fiance's favorite colors (since they go well) and take in the area where we wanna have the wedding. I didn't consider the season too much, but the end result ended up matching with that pretty well too.
