How Did You Pick Your Wedding Date?

How did you decide on your wedding date/year? Was it a special date? Luck of the draw pick? How far out from your actual wedding day did you pick the date in advance?

We got engaged December 2019. We knew we wanted to get married on our dating anniversary in August but 8 months wasnt long enough for me so we went with August 2021.

We knew we were going to fly to Las Vegas for our wedding, and it needed to be summer so we can have our teenage kids there and family be able to come so we chose fourth of July week: July 7th; Lucky 7!

Got engaged on our 11th anniversary June 2019. We know June is a crazy month for us all of our birthdays are in June/ family members. I wanted a summer wedding as I hate the cold here in Ohio. My fiancé loves fireworks so we went with either 7-3-21 or 7-10-21. When we started looking at venues we didn't think about it being a holiday weekend and so prices were doubled. We went with the 10th. I feel it is meant to be as my parents celebrate 25 years of marriage on 8-10 so 10 must be a lucky number!

I always wanted to get married in October because its my favorite month and Halloween is my favorite holiday. But like someone else pointed out, the last few years October has become a VERY popular month to get married and I have so many family members and friends who got married in October. So it turned me off to it. I live in So Cal so I never wanted a summer wedding because Its waaay too hot! So I just brought up doing a winter December wedding instead! We both liked that idea and when we picked our venue we asked what Saturdays in December they had available and we went with 12/12/2020. Of course now we have postponed until next December. Unfortunately, 12/11/2021 was taken so we went with 12/4/2021.

Well, that's a great question & honestly everybody is different.

Some make it a sentimental marker, like the first date, first kiss, or first "I Love You", or when they were introduced unwittingly (or not) by friends... It's all very personal.

For my fiance & I we are very spiritual, non-denominational, kind of "Universal" with our faith & beliefs. So, we picked a date based on numerology. if the digits of your wedding date adds up to a 1 or a 9, these are very strong numbers in numerology meaning powerful new beginnings, with longevity & Universal good luck. our date is Saturday, 20 March 2021 so it adds up like this:

    2+0+0+3+2+0+2+1 = 10 so then you take 1+0 = 1 & there is our Wedding number!

it also allows us to be flexible with our date, like if we needed to go to Friday 19 March 2021:

1+9+0+3+2+0+2+1 = 18 & 1+8 = 9. So, there it is another very personal and quirky way to pick your date.

You may want to consider asking your relatives if you are from any specific culture, see what cultural norms are shared with you regarding how to choose a wedding date. Consider the Chinese Zodiac or a significant celebration of a specific Hindu god. or Spring Solstice, Summer Equinox, etc etc.

There are just so many ways to make it special and give it an extra dash of meaning, significance or uniqueness. And it just makes it a part of your love story.

Good Luck to you & enjoy the process, Don't let it stress you out, because once it starts doing that, it's a chore and not a joy.

& Remember; "Be kind to the ones who are in your corner & don't fret about the ones who are not. Make sure your voice is heard & understood, and that your wishes are being fulfilled, but be FLEXIBLE & UNDERSTANDING, don't be a BRIDEZILLA!!! Especially is this day & age where things are just a bit tougher than they used to be. KINDNESS IS KEY!"

Oh, I forgot to add, My fiance just got back from a year in Kuwait, He arrived 21 Nov 2020 & my birthday was the 20th. so, we needed to wait until he got home. we wanted to get married a little sooner than later, so we decided March vs. April or June. Off peak season & it's just a month shy of our 4 year anniversary so, there ya go. Yet another example of why & when that makes it unique.

12/20/2020 because it's awesome! We picked it about two years ago before we were even officially engaged. FH proposed this year on 6/20/2020.
