How do I get my wedding website searchable on Google?

Dana, on January 19, 2015 at 2:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 40

No matter what you put into Google, our website does not come up. I have the settings set "website searchable" and do not have a private profile. This is EXTREMELY frustrating as my Knot website that I started but then did not complete because I did not like the format is showing up in a Google search for guests but not our actual website. Therefore they are not getting necessary details. We obviously shared our website with guests but unfortunately, a lot just go straight to searching for it on the internet instead of typing in the URL. Is there any way to fix this? Didn't think this would be an issue and would be so difficult. Apparently I should have just stayed with The Knot.... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I do not have a WW website but form what I understand setting it is as searchable means searchable from within the wedding wire website itself. Did you try putting the name of your website plus wedding wire into google?

I never ran into this problem, All my guests prefer using the URL. But here is a bump in hopes that you can be helped from somebody who knows. Smiley smile

I think they just want to go into google and type in their wedding website and have it be on the google page instead of just typing the url it in the address bar. I think, I'm not sure.

Samantha, that's exactly what I want. A lot of guests will just type our names and "wedding" in google to find the wedding website. Even though we've provided URL on invitations and save the dates, I have had multiple guests say they can't find anything because if they don't have that info on them, they just go to a basic internet search. Even when I type our Exact URL into the google search tab, it does not come up in search results.

Ensure that the title of your website is your names. When you open a new tab with the website, the tab should read your names exactly as they search for them.

Unless your url or names or really unique it is unlikely to show up on the first page of google, however you may have better luck typing in your names or url and then adding wedding wire to the end

You have to pay for your domain name. It's like... $6 a month.

Full names (first and last) are included in title. Still does not show up on any google search pages. Just to give an idea of how much people just Google search for information as opposed to typing in exact URL is that our wedding wire website has 87 views, the incomplete one through the Knot has 209 views... Well, I just updated the Knot with necessary info as well to cover all bases and solve the problem of information not being available to guests. However, if anyone still has solution for wedding wire, that would be greatly appreciated! Thank you everyone for your help.

A purchased domain actually dramatically decreases your ability to be found by any search engine. Companies pay millions of dollars each year for SEO & SEO/PPC specialists. It it impossible frankly for an individual to make a private URL website on the top 20 pages of Google, let alone the first.

Delete your Knot account & website, that should help. If you're feeling desperate, send me your info and I can take a look at what's wrong on the searching end.

Please don't buy a URL if you want to be found by a search engine, you need the power of The Knot or WW behind you to be searchable (their links, advertisements, SEO, etc are on your side).

This may sound silly, but are you sure it's published?

This is what FH said (he's in IT): That's about search engine optimization. It takes time - Its not super easy to get on google with a forwarded - If we hosted our site we would have more control but we would have to pay for webspace

so unless you create your website from scratch (no WW or TK) then you're pretty much sol

It is about SEO, and it's impossible to get on google with a forwarded URL like WW has. It won't happen, you're competing with Amazon, WalMart & CocaCola.

Leave the WW URL if you want it to be searchable. If it's not coming up as a WW site, and you have deleted your knot account, do check to see if it's actually published.

Not sure what you mean by published but it is accessible by guests if they type in the exact URL provided. And I have done everything provided on the wedding website designer. I'm not purchasing a URL at this point. Wedding is too close and I just updated the Knot info as much as possible with my time constraints right now so hopefully guests will get necessary info one way or another Smiley smile thanks again!

@Dana It was mentioned above, but making your website "searchable" within your settings means that it will be searchable on WeddingWire. Your guests can search for your name (or your fiance's name) and locate your wedding website. I would also suggest sharing your website URL (weddingwire.com/______) with your guests for easy access!

@WWKatie, thanks for the feedback. As I mentioned prior, I have done all of the above that you suggested. That however, does not solve my issue of not being searchable on Google say for those guests who do not fully read the save the date/invitation/every other avenue I have used to get the URL to my guests. At this time, I am just assuming there is no way to have my Wedding Wire site searchable on any search engine (google, yahoo, etc.) without purchasing a personal URL. Thank you again everyone for suggested solutions.
