How do you bring your wedding dress with you on a plane?

Chelsea, on May 31, 2021 at 8:02 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Hi everybody Smiley smile. So I'll be traveling out of state for my wedding and was wondering if anybody has any tips for traveling with a wedding dress? I've googled it and they say to bring the dress as a carry on and put it in the overhead bins. Did anyone buy a specific garment bag for traveling? I would like to just keep it in my lap, but I don't think airlines allow that. I've also read about vacuum sealing the dress and then keeping it in a garment bag in a suitcase. Just trying to see if anybody has or is planning something like this! Thank you!!

My friend is a stewardess and she said exactly what you said lay it on top in the over head compartments. She also said some planes may have a closet they can hang it in.
I flew with mine after the wedding. I forgot the garment bag somewhere on wedding day so I put it in our really big suitcase all by itself, it was a fluffy fit and flare. It was fine for after the wedding. I took it out as soon as we got to the hotel and hung it in the bathroom. We did bridal portraits on our honeymoon. Not sure I’d try that before unless you were taking it to get steamed when you got there.

I would do as Cassidy said - lay it on top of the other things in the overhead compartment or ask the stewards if they have another safe spot.

I would also take a hand held steamer - you don't want to look like Lady Di in a wrinkled duvet when you walk down the aisle Smiley smile

I am getting married this Friday, also out of state. Flying out Wednesday. My bridal store where I purchased my dress told me that it was possible to pack the dress in the actual suitcase, which they very kindly did for me. The owner of the salon assured me this was the safest way to get the dress there as it stays with me the entire time (it is a carryon suitcase) and that she has done it for hundreds of brides without an issue. It also keeps the dress safer, as it can’t get crushed in an overhead bin like it can if it’s just in a garment bag. She just recommended taking it out as soon as we get there and hanging it, as well as running a steamer over it. I did not expect my big dress to fit in a small carryon bag, but she did it without any difficulty!

Thank you! I think that's what I'm going to do as well. My dress should fit in there and I'll just take it out as soon as I can and also I'll have a steamer. Congratulations!! I hope everything goes smoothly today with flying and Friday on your wedding!!
