How do you get honeymoon perks?

rica, on August 13, 2018 at 2:50 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9

I always hear about the little extras you can get while traveling for your honeymoon, but how do you go about letting them know/proving it's your honeymoon?

I don't know that you can really bank on that sort of thing. It usually just happens when someone hears it's your honeymoon and it's definitely not the norm to get extra perks.

I think it depends on what type of vendor / service it is.

For airline upgrades - they're probably unlikely because they want to make money off people willing to pay.

For hotels, often their websites have information about it. But it's probably best to contact the concierge.

For proof, most will probably just want to see a copy of the marriage license.

Oh, I'm not looking for anything crazy! My friend said she got a bottle of champagne. That would be lovely Smiley smile

I've seen honeymoon perks mentioned on a few resort/hotel websites, they say you need a copy of your marriage license and have time frames ranging from 30 to 90 days after your wedding.

For our resort you had to mention at booking that it was your honeymoon trip and you had to bring a copy of your marriage certificate/license showing you had been married no more than 3 months before. I brought a copy of our marriage certificate but our resort never asked for it, and we still received the complimentary bottle of champagne, fruit basket, and rose petals on the bed.

Sandals resorts have you upload a copy of your wedding invitation or your marriage license to their site and then they email you back to confirm you’ll get the honeymoon perks. Not entirely sure what they all are though!

We’re going to Disney world and the agent who put together our package asked if we had any occasion for visiting. FH said it was for our honeymoon and she said we get honeymoon pins that might get us “honeymoon surprises” around the parks. 🤷🏼‍♀️

We went to Sandals and told them it was our honeymoon. They told us the trip had to be within 90 days of our wedding, which ours wasn't (we got married in August but didn't take our honeymoon in November). They pushed back a little but I told them the reason we delayed was we weren't going to go to St. Lucia earlier than November due to hurricane season and they said it was fine. They provided a little surprise on our bed every night (rose petals, towels in the shape of hearts, etc.), they decorated our table at dinner one night, brought champagne and strawberries to our room one night, and brought a cheese platter another and chocolates and fruit on another night.

I think occasionally people will do things for you, but not super often. We stayed in a Marriott for our graduation, and I wrote it in the "note" line of the reservation and they put champagne in our room. I've heard other countries want a marriage license if you reserve a honeymoon suite? Not sure if that's true or not.
