How do you say Yes to the Ring??

Anne, on September 19, 2016 at 12:42 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

I just have to comment that looking at wedding rings is making me crazy. It's hard enough to say "yes" to a dress you wear for one day but how do you say "yes" to a ring you wear everyday for the rest of your life.

I want a diamond band but I want it to look good next to my eng ring. I ordered one online to "test drive" but FH thinks it's bad luck to try out a wedding band before the wedding.

How did y'all decide which one was the one?

Below is a pick of the prospect. It's canary yellow and white diamonds because yellow is my fave color.

It just seems so different that I worry I will change my mind and not like it down the road.

Go to the jewelry store and try on bands. It's really not that difficult.

Bad luck to try on the wedding band before the wedding?

That's the silliest thing I ever heard of.

If you really aren't sure, then don't buy a diamond band. Buy a CZ band or a cheap band, so if you decide you don't like it, you can switch it up later.

Personally I just went around trying them on at different stores until I found one I loved, then bought it. It doesn't have to be your forever band, it's just a symbol, not your marriage.

You can always change it later on. Due to finances FH and I had to purchase bands that weren't our dream bands and we have plans to upgrade them later on. I wanted a rose gold and white gold wrap but instead bought this because it was much less expensive:

I just tried on several at several different stores. I wanted one that complimented my e-ring but also looked good by itself.

I have exhausted every jewelry store in the DC metro area. Nothing really jumps out at me as being "the one" that's why I started looking online and now I considering having something custom made. That opens up even more cans of worms.

I agree that colored diamonds are way too taste specific and my tastes change over the years.

    Thanks for the suggestions

@gymrat FH thinks it's bad luck for me to buy rings online to wear for a few days to decide if I like them enough to be "the one" He is all in favor of my trying on in jewelry stores but I just can't find "the one" locally.

I feel very lucky that mine came as a set. But they kind of had to. Weird shape. I'm obsessed!

If it is bad luck to try on your wedding band before the marriage i'm screwed. I couldn't find an engagement ring I liked but fell in love with a band. I wore my band as my engagement ring and now I wear my band as my wedding band. To date, I still don't have a black cloud following me around.

Look, my engagement ring is a kinda off shape.. I was able to get a band that kinda molds to the ring. Anything is possibleSmiley smile I recommend looking for a band that you know you will be happy with. And your ring is very simple and beautiful.. why not find a simple and beautiful band? I dont believe its bad luck. My FH proposed to me without a ring... then we went shopping together to find something we both loved!!

    @LynZLeigh Gorgeous!

My FH bought the wedding band when he bought the engagement ring before he proposed. He picked out a beautiful one!

Agree with above... go spend a day trying rings on next to your e-ring. One of the things I felt I wanted was matching bands with my DH (I don't like diamonds, so no diamond band for me). We both ended up with a plain tungsten band. Not our dream band, but we can get those later, if we choose to. our 'dream bands' are meteorite and dinosaur bone.

Anne, not sure where you are in the DC area but have you tried private/non-chain jewelers? I highly recommend Nupen Jewlers in Fairfax! They helped my FH create my ring, they can do custom jewelry or you can buy something straight from the case.

I am going to have to get a ring custom made if I cannot find a band that fits my e ring. It is a strange shape (sharp v) and I am having no luck.

@Page-I'm in Ashburn. I have used Dominion Jewelers in Falls Church to have custom done in the past. I have never heard of Nupen but I will def look into them. I have hit all the jewelers at Tysons, Fair Oaks, Dulles TC and Jared. No luck.

    Thank you for the suggestion!!
