How early is too early to book vendors?

Grace, on March 11, 2021 at 4:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 22
Hey ladies! I just booked my venue for September 24 2022, and I’ve started reaching out to a few vendors such as DJ and caterer to get pricing estimates. I’m running into a few vendors that are already booked up entirely for 2022- which makes sense due to covid. So how early is too early for me to get the mains things, such as a DJ, caterer, and photographer? If I really like their services offered and would probably have booked them later on, is it a good idea to book them now even though it’s 18 months in advanced? Thank you!

    Grace,
18 months seems like a good time for the big vendors who can only do one event a day! I'm getting married in October 2021 and booked our venue, photographer, and DJ in February and March 2020, so over 18 months prior! They said we were *a little* ahead of the game, but I can imagine things are different now with COVID and postponements. I say go for it, especially if you really like them and know you want them and have already looked around. Smiley smile

I’d say book all the major vendors as soon as you can!! It doesn’t hurt.

Awesome, thanks for the reply Bridget!! I figured 18 months isn’t *too* crazy early, especially with all the weddings that have been pushed back! Just wanted to make sure I’m not totally jumping the gun! Haha

I'm getting married 9/2/2022, we already booked our venue (which includes catering) and DJ.

I don't think your jumping the gun at all!

Every vendor I talked to said their booking up really fast for 2022 with all the COVID brides pushing back as well as new brides booking for 2022, so get em while ya can is the philosophy I'm living by!

Never too early!! I got engaged last year in June and had my big things booked (venue, photographers, videographers, DJ, etc) in July for my September 2021 wedding!

I personally don't think you can ever book a vendor 'too early'. Not only does booking early mean you generally avoid their fees increasing (i.e we booked our reception venue 16 months ahead of our wedding and avoided the venue's increase in fees of $5pp implemented a few months later for the following year) but you also have peace of mind.

If you find vendors who you think are irreplaceable (i.e. a photographer with a really unique photographing style), don't let them go!

Book everything you can - the earlier the better! We booked a lot of our major vendors 2+ years out, pre-covid. Even hair/makeup and flowers book up quickly!

My wedding is in August 2022 and I've booked the venue, caterer, photographer, DJ and officiant. If you know what you want now and they're available, lock in those prices!

I personally started reaching out to photographers and other major vendors immediately just because of the covid situation and so many brides having to reschedule their dates. I don’t think it’s ever too early to start talking to vendors

We are getting married 10/21/22 and we have booked our venue (which includes all catering), officiant, DJ and photographer. We didn't want to miss out on vendors we wanted since there are a lot of rescheduled wedding due to covid. I feel like it's never too early

If you know it's who you want, I'd say book them.

I’d book them! We got engaged July 2019- I had venue, photographer, DJ, caterer & baker booked by December. We’re getting married in 23 days- it’s never too early!

I don't think it's too early at all! Especially with so many brides postponing their weddings, some vendors will be in high demand. If you know who you want, book them!

You’re wedding is a day after mine!

I already booked venue( they provide DJ, cake, food/Drinks) I already booked the photographer. I know, still, a lot of weddings being postponed I didn’t want to chance not getting my venue or my dream photographer! I would say start nailing some stuff down now. I will wait til about a year out to start doing dresses ect.
