How early is too early?

Maura, on September 12, 2019 at 2:53 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 9
Hi everyone! I am getting married next October but I am the type of person who likes to get things out of my way especially since my venue isn’t particularly close to me. It’s about an hour away so I’m looking for hair and makeup places up there (Morristown,NJ area). I don’t have a dress yet but I know no matter what I want my hair up, I sweat unfortunatelySmiley sad so after that long explanation I guess if my wedding is about a year out is it too early to trial for hair and makeup? Thanks!

I'm all for planning early, but I worry that doing your hair and makeup trial this early would keep the MUA/hair stylist from remembering exactly what they did or what they used. I plan on waiting until around two months before the wedding for the trial so it'll still be fresh in her mind.

On the other hand, very popular hair and makeup artists can book a year or year and a half in advance. So I wouldn't necessarily wait to book, but I would wait for the trial!

My wedding is October 24, 2020 and I went ahead and booked my gal ahead of time because she popular, it's busy season, and the venue is about 2 hours from my house. I put my deposit down but my trial isn't set until May. She suggested not doing a trial until at least 6 months out from the wedding. Hope that helps! Smiley smile

I would wait for the hair and makeup trial! It's great that you're being so proactive, but doing it a few months before is totally fine also

I agree with PPs about waiting for the actual trial. I would definitely wait until you’ve found your dress so you can envision the whole look together when picking our hair styles.

I would research hair and makeup artists and book one, but I don't think you need to do a trial yet. I did mine about 5 months before my wedding because I had a very busy schedule. I ended up deciding to change my makeup because I had so much time in between my wedding day and trial that I found something I liked better. I would recommend waiting until you are closer just to be sure of what you want.

Also, when I did my trial I had to bring my veil and they asked to see a photo of my dress probably so they could invision what everything would look like. I would focus on getting other things like your dress first.

I'm August 2020 and booked my hair/makeup already. The first 4 people I contacted were already booked. 2020 is busy. Book someone now based on their social media/website profiles and do the trial later.

I booked my stylist at 10 months and did my trial at 8 months since that’s when I could travel.
