How early to book a venue?

Shelby, on December 13, 2020 at 4:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
Hi! I’ve heard people not being able to get refunds on their deposits when their venue closed so my fiancé and I are a little timid when it comes to booking venues. However, with back log due to COVID, I’m nervous we won’t be able to secure our planned date. Is anyone having issues booking venues and how early so you recommend booking?

Book your vendor asap since many fill up 1-2 years ahead depending on popularity. But before you commit, ask what their policy is for rescheduling.

With COVID here, I wouldn't recommend booking anything any time soon unless your having few guests

We booked our venue for our wedding 16months in advance. We knew it was the one so we had no problem booking that early

I would book the venue as soon as you find one. I think a lot of people have pushed back their weddings due to Covid. Before booking, I would discuss with the venue how they are handling Covid in the event the wedding would have to be postponed or cancelled.

Venues book up fast and I certainly wouldn't wait. I actually booked our venue 2 months before we 'officially' got engaged as I knew our venue would book out.

Re COVID I would have a discussion with your vendors (incl venue hosts) as to what will happen in the event the wedding cannot go on because of COVID; i.e. will they be happy to move the booking free of charge etc.

As others have said, I would book your venue as soon as you find one you love. Venues are typically the first thing brides book during their planning and the good venues book up quick!

We booked a little less than 2 years out, this was pre-covid. But our venue has been wonderful with handling covid issues. I would just ask what the venue is doing to deal with covid before booking.

As others have said, I wouldn't wait on booking a venue for 2022, but would definitely get clear information on how they're handling COVID (and any potential postponements, cancellations, etc.).

Each venue is different, but ours only required a $500 deposit to secure the date.
