How early to order edible favors?

BrooklynBride, on October 24, 2017 at 8:04 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 20

I'm ordering chocolates for our favors, possibly Ferrero Rocher or Lindt truffles. I was going to order them earlier but FH is afraid that the chocolate would appear old or cracked if stored for a long time.

How early are you guys ordering the edible favors?

They will be made fresh to order. Doing truffles from a local chocolatier. Otherwise it would be pretty hard to know exactly how long they have been at the storage facility.

That's a good point... I was only going for lindt and ferrero because they're well known...

But I'll be honest, I've never had a bad or aged lindt truffle.

Do like a month out so they have time to get to you but not enough time to go stale

I wonder if you could perhaps get a sweet Black Friday deal?

I had considered Black Friday too but wedding is 3 weeks later. I'm wondering if that's cutting it too close.

They'll be fine. Think it has shelf life of a year but you can probably call their customer service to confirm

In my candy keeping experience, it takes a LONG time for chocolate to look old, and the better quality stuff stays nice looking longer. I think any time now is fine, as long as they don't melt and reharden, their condition should be fine

My FH got me lindt truffles for Christmas last year (A LOT OF THEM!! ) Since I have been watching what I eat I was careful on taking my time eating them. I ate the last one a few weeks ago and it still tasted brand new. PPs are correct as far as chocolate shelf life. We don't realize as consumers how long ago these chocolates were made in the first place. I went to a chocolate factory before Christmas last year and they were already making their chocolate Easter bunnies lol.

Good to know! I do wonder how old the ones that were cracked and grayish looking were then..

I ordered mine 10 months in advance (paid) but didn't have them bake them until a week before (fresh for 6 months).

I've already ordered the Hershey's Kisses for mine (I think in September, maybe?), but they don't expire until the spring, and I'm keeping them in big airtight Ziploc bags on top of the original packaging. I'll be putting the bagged ones in airtight bags as we put them together too.

I did ferrero rochet and ordered them a couple months ahead of time from amazon so I'd have time to put them together. They were fine!

Just be sure to store them in a cool, dry place (not the fridge though).

Usually when they are cracked or grayish it's because they warmed up and melted slightly then cooled down again. As long as they are kept in a cool dry place they should be fine.

We had Lindt Truffles for our wedding favors. I bought them at a Labor Day sale in September for our October 14th wedding and they were still good. They didn't appear old or anything.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I'm gonna look for the sales now. Smiley smile And... I was definitely going to put it in the fridge. Gotta look for another place to store it.
