How early to shop!

Katie, on April 16, 2018 at 6:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
How early have some of you started shopping for your bridal gown? Any recommendations if you wish you would have waited maybe a couple of months? My wedding is a just over a year away yet, next June. At the moment, this May or August would be the earliest I can make time to go dress shopping. June and July are swamped with my brother getting married this July and another friend getting married in June. Just looking for some input. Some checklists I've seen say to start dress shopping a year-ish out.....but I also feel like that's early...however after seeing the timeline for my soon to be sister in law trying to get accessories (belt, veil) all that jazz, I am a little bit worried when the belt she ordered probably won't be here until maybe a week before her wedding! Yikes! Again looking for some input, what would you have done differently if anything?

My wedding is June 2019. I bought my dress at the end of March. I suggest that you start looking now. It may take you a while to find a dress once you initiate the search and then it may take a while for the dress to come in. Mine can take up to 6 months to arrive.

I ordered my dress in mid-October for my June 23rd wedding. They said it would take 5 months to arrive. (it came a month early!) I’m getting my dress altered and the final pick up date is 10 days before my wedding. I would start shopping around 10-12 months before.

Now now now! Smiley laugh Maybe you'll find your dress in the 1st shop. Or it may take you many, many, many trips and that one year zips by fast with everything you need to do. I went to 8-10 stores and it took 8+ months for the top I ordered to come in.

I am getting married at the end of May 2019. I got engaged Jan 2018. I tried on my first dress in Jan 2018 with my best friend and have gone several times again since. I think I found “the dress” this past time when I went with my father in February but since my mom is paying for it, I have to wait til May/June to actually go and buy it because my sister/MOH wants to be there and she’s away at college. It’s never too early to start looking!

My wedding is May 31, 2019 and I bought my dress March 17 of this year! My dress they said would take 6-10 months to get in so that's why we went already. Plus, it's such a fun experience you don't want to feel in a rush and like you have to settle for something to meet a deadline. Go now and allow yourself to enjoy the process!

Originally, we were getting married this month. We had to postpone. I have been ill and knew I couldn't go from shop to shop. I found a salon who gave us a private appointment and told them specifically what I was looking for and the colors. I didn't want white or ivory.

Found my gown on that first shopping trip, June 2017, and my gown didn't arrive until the end of January 2018. It needs extensive alterations. I would have been hard pressed to have it ready for April. Now that our wedding is in October, I have plenty of time and no stress. I suggest shopping as soon as possible. After you find your gown, stop looking. Smiley winking I knew what I wanted, but so many of my friends have dress regret because they can't stop looking. Hope this helps. Each designer will have different delivery times, too.

A year out is pretty standard. My Martina Liana dress will take 7-8 months to come in and then I’ll need to do alterations. If you were wanting a place like David’s Bridal or BHLDN it won’t take that long to get your dress in but a traditional bridal boutique will.

I ordered mine exactly 1 year out. I think it's always good to start early because different designers take different amounts of time to come in. You could find a dress that take 5 months or one that takes 10 months to come in. The earlier you start, you can ensure you can get whatever dress you fall in love with on time!

My wedding is in September 2018 and I bought my dress in October 2017.. so 11 months out, the shop estimated 6-8 months for it to come in and it came in just under 6 months, so starting in August may be ok but it could also be cutting it close.

Our total engagement will only be 10 months so I started dress shopping almost right away- my first appt was about a month after we got engaged. They said it would be in late March (August wedding) but it came in mid February.

Thankful for this thread. I have almost exactly a year before my wedding and I have not started wedding dress shopping. I will definitely begin shopping this coming month.

My wedding is September 1, 2019 and I got my dress yesterday! I went to a sample sale and I knew it was “the one” so I went for it! I’m happy because I pretty much dont have to even think about it until around this time next year, giving me time to lose weight.

I was told that it can take 6-9 months to order some dresses. So it never hurts to start early.
I ordered mine Feb 19th and it was ready March 1st. So it depends on what dress you find.

My wedding isnt until September 2019 & i have already started looking. I've been to two boutiques already, I'm actually going to a 3rd one tonight. I'm hoping to have my dressed picked by June (maybe tonight). I dont want to have to worry about dress shopping over the summer. I say start looking now and get an idea of what you like, figuring out the style that works best for you is huge and makes the process a lot easier! Since I've started looking i have figured out many things i like and things i have started to dislike, now i know exactly what i am looking for! Enjoy the process!

I bought my dress about 18 months before my wedding date (purchased last summer and my wedding is 12/15/18). I honestly still don't regret it - I love my dress. It did take about 6 months to come in since it is custom (ordered to my size) and from Australia - so you should buffer at least 6-8 months if you are not purchasing a dress of the rack. Sometimes I check out the newer styles offered by my gown designer (Martina Liana) and I don't have any dress regret. My dress isn't too trendy so I don't feel like buying it so far in advance was an issue for me, but it depends on your preference of whether you want a trendy dress.

I got my dress about 7-8 months prior to the day. I went to a boutique so it takes longer to come in

My wedding is also June of 2019! I made my first shopping appointment in March of this year, but it’s mostly because I know I’m very analytical. I had my second one this month and I’ll probably make another for May. Many places need at least 6-9 months for the dress to actually come in, so I’d say to start looking but don’t really stress or feel pressure until late September (depending on their timeline for ordering dresses). Besides, there’s nothing wrong with going early just to get a feel for what you like! I literally got no insight to my first appointment, and my second one has narrowed two silhouettes I like and a general style. Two months of looking and I just now feel like I’m figuring out what I’m leaning towards lol.
