How far in advance for registry?

Jillian, on November 8, 2014 at 7:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

If you did a registry, how many months before your wedding did you sign up/ pick your items and where did you register?

Went to do a registry (6 months away from wedding 4 months from shower) and she acted like we were too soon, so just want to see if she was crazy or if we should get going on it!

10 months. Ended up getting some things for my birthday last week and probably will get some stuff for Christmas. Of my 300ish items already 20 have been purchased over 6 months out (not like I'm counting). Bed bath and beyond, crate and barrell (which has the most purchases from) and amazon (which has none yet)

We were just wondering the same thing. I was planning on waiting until after the holidays, (we're having a june wedding) but a friend of mine mentioned that some family members may want to buy things from the registry for christmas, so we may go ahead and get some stuff on there, if we can carve out the time!

I would do it as soon as possible. I actually haven't been to any stores yet but most places you can register online. Just pick a couple of your favorite stores and then register, and add things as you think of them! To me that's awesome because theres been several times I haven't realized I needed something until I did, and then I would go to registry and just add it.

I have my registries and planning on telling people about it when bridal shower invites go out..

I think that's kinda weird (and maybe a little rude) to tell people you're registered a year before. Now if they ask if you're registered, and you have it done you can give it to them. But I wouldn't send it to people before invites go out...

That kinda reminds me of this Bride friend that was thinking about posting her registry on Facebook..uhh..extremely rude and tacky. She basiclally wanted to get gifts from people that she's not even considering inviting to her wedding.

My wedding registry hasn't been anywhere except on the website I included on the save the dates since it's a destination wedding. My friends are tech savvy enough they can google our names and wedding and the registries come up. I wouldn't announce the registries anywhere like girls said but you can definitely create one.

We registered 10 months out (Bed, Bath, & Beyond and Amazon). An engagement party was being hosted for us, and even though those aren't usually gift heavy, some people had began asking us.

Advice--keep an eye on it from time to time for items that get discontinued. We seriously went through 3 bathroom sets and 2 sets of flatware (luckily no pieces had been bought from either when pieces were discontinued!)

I'll throw them on our website ( I refuse to include them in the formal invite) otherwise they will only go out in the shower invite. Just wondered if I truly was too far out or if he lady at the store was being difficult

I did mine the other day (about 10 months out) at Bad Bath and Beyond. I also did Crate and Barrel and am planning on Target. I did mine early so if there's stuff I REALLY need/want for my house (we just bought one) than I could get it for free shipping (from BB&B). I think getting as much out of the way as possible is always the best betSmiley smile

I did mine already. Just did them online. FH still needs to add 2 more things he's picking out though. No one knows about them yet though. No one will know about them until we send our STDs out. The STDs will have our wedding website on them and then links to our registries are on the site.
