How far in advance should you book hair/makeup?

Miranda, on March 19, 2018 at 11:38 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 17

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm curious as to the timeline. When should you start looking? How far in advance did you book? How many months before the wedding should you do the trial?

Thanks in advance. Smiley smile

I booked my HMU person about 9 months before the wedding, but I think the timeline on here shows 6 months. I started looking about a year in advance, but I ended up going with someone at the suggestion of my photographer. My HMU person said to do the trial about 1 and a half months to 2 months before the wedding, so I have a better idea of what I want. I'm sure all artists are different though.

Hair you want to do closer to the wedding- book it whenever you like but about 4-6 weeks for the actual trial Incase you have any hair changes. Make up can be done a lot sooner if you want. I did mine about 4 months out with trial.

I booked almost a year in advance. My wedding planner told me that hair and makeup are one of the vendors that book up really quickly and I should put a deposit on my date as soon as possible. They told me they like to do trials 4-6 weeks before the wedding.

I booked my HMUA 14 months in advance because so many were booked for my date already. It all depends on the area where you're getting married and if it's a busy time of year for them. If you haven't started looking yet you might want to start soon.

I'm looking now, at about 13 months out. Will probably lock somebody down in the next few months and will do my trial towards the end of the year (wedding is mid-April).

I booked mine last August. So many people were already booked when I needed them and she was my top choice. I did not want to take a chance!

I booked mine in February for September, and even by then a lot of salons were already booked up with weddings. It depends on the number of people getting HMU done and the time of year.

I started looking in December and booked in January. Wedding will be in October. Had my first trial in January and just did another one this month. Will probably do one more once my hair extensions are finished (the look i tried this month is what i decided on and will look better with extensions)

As soon as you can. We live in Pittsburgh, and since we're in the city, the good vendors go fast. If you're getting married in 11 months, I would definitely start looking and getting quotes from artists. We had all of our stuff booked about a year out.

My wedding is on a weekday in 2 months and I still haven’t booked! I know I need to. If I have a trial at all it will be the day before because it’s a destination wedding.

I just recently booked mine. I'll be having my trial in the beginning of June and will be seeing her at her salon the morning of my wedding.

I just booked and I'm about 9 months out. but have been looking for a while. I found someone a week out for my engagement shoot that was scheduled last minute, not the company that I am going with for the wedding day because they are a little more expensive. My trial is going to be on the day of my bridal shower about 2 and a half months before the wedding.

I got my trial of just hair done last week (i'm more concerned w/ hair than makeup. Just my preference) ....and i'm getting married in September. I thought it was a bit in advance, but I know September is a pretty hot month for bookings so I wanted to get in right away. She just reminded me that things to take into consideration are: length of hair will most likely be longer, so that will change certain aspects/ products I use or don't use the morning of/ and weather for that day might impact my hair differently that day. All things that weren't surprising to me and I already knew Smiley smile So really, I don't think a little far in advance is a bad thing.

I started thinking about it around 6 months out, but just got around to booking in the past week or two. (My wedding is at the end of June.) Well, I have my MUA trial today, and hope to book her afterward - I really like all of her work that I've seen.

I had a hair trial done about a month ago and didn't like it, so went with my second choice stylist.
