How far is "out of town" ?

Haley, on June 19, 2019 at 9:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are getting married like 10 minutes from our house. We are inviting about 115 people.

Everyone we are inviting lives basically within 2.5 hours. Most of people live locally or within 1 hour. No one is coming from out of state.

Are these people considered out of town? Do I need to do a hotel block? I assume some people will want to stay overnight because there will be drinking. Our reception will end around 9:30 (mostly because FH is obsessed with having an after party at our house).

I would probably get a hotel block. I know if it were me and the wedding was more than 30-45 minutes away I'd opt to stay overnight.

Literally same… our wedding venue is 25 minutes from our house, but a solid 1+ hr drive for (nearly) all of our guests. If your guests have more than a 1 hr drive or live out-of-state, then yes, they are considered OOT guests. A hotel block is a nice gesture but not a requirement. We did one at a resort 10 minutes from our venue. Some guests are turning it into a weekend trip; others are just spending the night after the wedding

All of our guests are either out of state or live within 30 minutes. We are getting a hotel block because I know a lot of people will probably take advantage of the shuttle to and from the venue and our wedding ends at 11.

If my guests live far enough away to need a hotel, I would consider them out of town.

Our wedding is 2.5 from home and about 2-3 hours drive for most of our guests (only a handful are out of state). We’re definitely doing a hotel block because I don’t think anyone will want to drive home after the reception. However, we’re invited to a wedding later this year that’s about 1-1.5 hours (or more) drive for all of the guests attending and there’s no room block. I think it’s a nice gesture, but not required. We’re all adults, we can figure out what to do.

If it is an hour drive I'd say it's ok to not do a hotel block. Personally I've been to plenty of weddings that were 45 miles away from my house but still made the effort. It's inconvenient but to be quite honest guests will make the effort happily anyway to witness an event like that

Our venue is at least 40 minutes from a majority of our local guests, and we have a ton that are semi local where they are within 2 hours. We did a block because even the local guests will want to stay to prevent drinking and driving. My sister got married 15 minutes down the road on the same street that I lived on but I still chose the hotel for safety.

We ended up not doing a hotel block after we found out that there would only be 4 out of state guests coming. The rest of our guests are in state, 95% local, and we felt like it didn't quite warrant a hotel block.

I have a very similar situation, except my wedding is about 1 hour and 5 minutes from my house, and many of my guests. We also have a lot of guests who live about 2.5 hours away. And a handful coming from out of state. We decided to get a small room block. Many of our guests have already stated they will be staying overnight. So I don't think it would hurt to have a room block available to those who wish to stay.

Yes, they are considered out of town. I don't imagine anyone driving 5 hours round trip in 1 day for a wedding (maybe some, but I would never do that). I would for sure do 1 or 2 blocks.

We have everyone coming for more than an hour away. A few from California, New York, New Jersey and even over seas. We live in NC. We got a hotel block just in case.
