How far is too far for a venue

Bri, on May 13, 2016 at 12:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I'm in the middle of north fl... high springs. It is hard to find a nice - price appropriate venue without it being somewhere other people we know have used. How far in your opinion is too far to have guests drive?

I would say half hour-45 minutes. Maybe an hour.

Depends on the area. I am fine to drive anywhere less than 2 hours. But, we are used to driving a little farther.

I would think an hour max, unless you get a hotel block and people want to stay

We had a venue that was 45 minutes for most people, but 90 minutes for us and some of our friends. We blocked rooms at a local hotel, but only the bridal party and 2 out of town couples stayed over out of 88 people. That said, that was a day-time wedding.

If you're going for nighttime, you have to consider people will be tired after a full day. And I would also think about your guests demographics profile: if you have big drinkers, they're going to *need* to stay over or you need to provide transportation to and from the hotel or ensure taxis or ubers are available and reasonable price to get back to the hotel, to ensure they're safe.

My cousin has already been to two weddings at my venue. I didn't know this prior and I don't live in the same state as my venue and none of our family live in that particular town. Honestly, it's not a big deal if someone has already used your venue because you are unique.

There's probably some really nice and inexpensive venues in Lake City that would not be too far at all. That's where I'm moving on my honeymoon lol, it's my FH's hometown and I have an aunt and uncle in High Springs.

Depends on the area. We are city people so you literally can't get anywhere without driving a half hour at least, more if it's the other end of town. So for me I would be willing to travel about an hour and wouldn't be upset. People around here even have wedding out in wine country all the time and it's at least 1 hour away. Any more than that (unless it is out of town for me and we just are close enough to the couple to travel for it) and I'm not sure I'd be up for it. My family lives about 2 hours away and I have often made the round trip in 1 day but I don't enjoy it. Really to have fun and be willing to stay the whole night I won't drive more than 1 hour. If I have to drive further I'm getting a room so I don't have to stress over it and that adds to the cost so I wouldn't love it. I would understand if you just lived that far from me but just picking a far away venue would frustrate me more.
