How far is too far?

So we found a location we love for our ceremony. It's very us as it's not a traditional church, but an open-air structure. And we LOVE it. But we want to have our reception indoors for AC purposes (June/VA/humid). So we started looking for other places and found a venue for a reception we love that also fits our style and is very us. But they are 18.2 miles apart.

Now it's important to note that the reception venue abuts the hotel we will personally be staying at and doing a hotel block at. Like, literally walk through the small garden that separates them (absolutely there is a path) and you can enter the back hotel entrance with your room key if you're staying there. And there are two other hotels literally across the road on the other side.

So basically out of town guests would arrive Fri/Sat and check-in. Then Saturday afternoon, they'd drive to the ceremony (18.2 miles/25 minutes) and be there about an hour or so. Then have to drive back to the hotel/reception area and not have to drive after that if they're staying there at the hotel. *Also about every guest we have except for 15 will be staying at one of the three hotels.

I am feeling terrible about asking guests to drive. And I got to know, is it too much? TIA.

Since most of your guests will be from out of town and centralized in that hotel area, have you looked into a shuttle service?

I agree with PP about maybe looking into renting a bus/shuttle to transport people so they don't have to rent a car.

That's not an overall terrible idea. Though I will say that most of our out of town guests will be driving from where they live not flying. Basically only ourselves and my sister, brother, MOH, and one BM will be flying home for the wedding.

I think that renting a bus/shuttle service will be the best solution in your case.

I agree with PPs that renting a shuttle would be nice, but I also don't think it's an issue to have them drive.

I would definitely consider providing transportation to the church for everyone staying at the hotels.

While I would appreciate a shuttle, I wouldn’t mind driving to the ceremony. As long as you’re not asking people to drive to the reception where the fun happens, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal if you can’t arrange a shuttle service.

Shuttle service would be your best bet.
