How far out did you book your honeymoon?

PrincessLawrence, on January 23, 2018 at 1:40 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 24

So we are going to Atlantis in September, getting married in June. How far out should we book? We are putting on our credit card so will have to make payments on it so dont want to do that to far in advance as we are hoping to use some wedding money to cover costs lol.

Be careful with putting anything on your credit card if you can't fully pay it back right away. You don't want to start married life in debt.

I was just at a wedding expo this Sunday and one of the travel agents said about a year out is when you should start planning and booking things.

LOL to late for that. No we know we can pay it back just dont want to cash out 5,000 before even taking the honey moon. We will have all the money saved up so as soon as we are back from the trip we can pay it off. I have the money the reason we are doing the credit card is security purposes, so that if someone steals the card identity I can freeze it and its not coming directly out of my checking account. I know I am weird and think like that lol.

I just got back from Atlantis, it’s a cashless resort so be prepared for that, and very expensive. For two adults and a child, we were averaging $200 a day minimum on meals (with no alcohol). And if you want to do the dolphin / sea lions encounters, book those in advance, they go super fast.

We are booking the honey moon package which includes breakfast 3 days and the dolphin experience for 2 in that so I am not worried about that. Did you book through an agent of directly through there website? And at this point anywhere we go is going to cost us lol. But good to know they are a cashless place and all will have to be put on our card. How far out did you book?

Wait to go until you can pay the honeymoon off when it comes due on your credit card, not just when you are back from the honeymoon. There's no point in accruing interest on something just because you don't want to pay for it until it's done.

Using a credit card does increase your security and money safety.

When to book depends on where you want to go. We waited until relatively last minute and booked 2 months before travelling to a place in their offseason. We took advantage of hotel and flight deals. Other places will book up way in advance.

I'm a year out from my wedding/honeymoon and we aren't able to fully book yet. I'm planning on using Expedia bundles to go to Hawaii where they'll bundle the flights and resort together. They are only booking up to December 2018 right now so hopefully next month or March we can book! We know what we want to do/where we want to stay, we're just waiting.

If you want a specific package and have interest in a specific room, you’re probably going to want to book ASAP. Packages can change all the time and they’ll only honor things already the paid for. I wouldn’t count on money from the wedding paying for it, though, so if you can’t afford it on your own, I’d postpone further than September.

This doesn't make sense. If you can afford to pay for it, why accrue interest on it? You're going to end up paying WAY more in the long run which is a terrible idea. You shouldn't wait until you're back from the trip to start making payments on it. I totally understand why you're using a credit card, because I only use my credit card for purchases, but I pay it off at the end of every month and never carry a balance. If you are carrying a balance, you're starting off your married life in debt.

Obviously we don't know the details of her credit card, maybe she gets free interest on purchases for 18 months if it's an introductory offer, she hasn't actually disclosed that information.

While I don't necessarily agree that's the best use of a card, they've obviously already made their decision.

We started looking into honeymoon destinations about a year out, but since we did something state-side we could delay buying our flights until we got a great deal, and because it wasn't a super popular destination we could wait until a couple months before to book activities. (We went to Sonoma/Napa/San Fran)

I’m not sure the average, but I started looking and booked a little less than a year out! I just wanted it off my to do list Smiley smile We only had to do a deposit at time of booking, the rest is due about a month before I think, so you could always put that on the credit card and pay off after the wedding?

We booked less than a month in advance. We knew where and how we were booking. We did an all inclusive resort in Punta Cana, DR and booked everything through southwest vacations. Booked our transportation about a week in advance. Once we got to the resort the transportation company came to the resort each morning to book excursions for us.
