I always loved hearing proposal stories before I was engaged, and now I love telling mine! My FH and I were celebrating our one year anniversary of dating. He told me he convinced a close friend of mine (now my BM), who is a photographer, to do an anniversary photoshoot. Completely clueless, we drove to the mall and bought a brand new outfit for both of us. After heading home and getting ready, we drove out to the beach for the shoot at sunset. We did a few different sitting poses before my BM told us to stand with the sunset behind us. Minutes later, my FH starts saying romantic things to me like "you've made my life complete" and "you're smart, beautiful, etc." I awkwardly shushed him because I didn't want to make my friend uncomfortable about being the third wheel *face palm.* Once I heard, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you" I realized what was going on. He got down on one knee and I was so shocked I couldn't even say "yes," only squeal.

How did your FH propose?

FH proposed on his birthday. His parents were giggly all day, whispering, and pretty much alternating between which of us was out running errands so we were never home at the same time. We set up his surprise party at his dad's, had pizza and ice cream cake, and then went home to get ready to go out with friends for the night. When we got home I headed for the shower (it was hot as hell that day, and I felt sweaty & yuck). He followed me down the hall & told me I needed to come back to the living room, he needed to ask me something. Of course, I suspected nothing. Went back to the living room, his parents were there, he dropped to one knee, slid a ring on my finger, & asked if I would marry him. Obviously my brain flatlined, so I said, "If this is a joke, its not funny!" It wasn't a joke! I said yes! He asked if the ring fit, & my fried brain decided I should get a terrible case of diarrhea of the mouth, so my dumb ass says, as his mom is videoing, "I dont know, it's on the wrong side!" We all had a good laugh at that. When his friend & his girlfriend got there, I was so excited to tell them, and their response was "Congratulations, but we knew!" Turns out literally EVERYONE, including our coworkers, knew before I did. We went in to work that Sunday, and I was immediately swarmed with people asking to see my ring. FH laughed his ass off for a week.

In the midst of talking to my aunt my boyfriend was behind me and said "Babe I have a question to ask"? I was busy talking to my aunt and turned around he was on his knee asking me to be his wife.... as you can see by the picture I was crying like a big baby.... lol

The peanut story is so great Smiley smile We were vacationing in Pigeon Forge, TN with friends, and he and I took a couple hours to hike to the top of Chimney Tops in the Smoky Mountains, and he asked someone to take a picture of us, and in the middle of it, he pulled out the ring, got down and asked "Will you climb mountains with me?"

We went on vacation to my favorite beach in Florida to celebrate my birthday (so I thought) FH was being weird and took his suitcase in the bathroom with him all the time. Hahaha. Somebody didn't want me looking in his bag.....the night of my birthday we had dinner at a resort on the beach, afterwards we went out to watch the sunset when he got down on one knee Smiley smile

So the way he actually proposed was not cute at all... in fact I was beyond pissed. But what is cute is that he'd been waiting since thanksgiving (when he got the ring) to propose on New Years, but he got too excited and just couldn't wait any longer. He made it until New Year's Eve at 7:30 pm. Because the way he proposed (and the fact that he made me watch a political documentary with our friends immediately afterword) was so blatantly terrible (like... I'm not even being picky or bridezilla, everyone I tell is like "what the hell? Why would he do that?") he re-proposed at midnight... I still said yes both times.

My FH planned a trip to California for my birthday, or so I thought. He told me we were going to dinner for my birthday but first to take pictures at a cool place. His brother and GF were with us. We pulled up to a cliff in Malibu, CA at sunset. It was absolutely breathtaking. His brother videoed and gf took pictures.

I was totally surprised and amazing at how much he thought this out!

I love being able to watch the video over and overSmiley smile

My FH is Deputy in west Texas. We were in a long distance relationship. I lived in city 2 hours away. On his days off he would come and visit me, and I'm a teacher so I would go see him on weekends. One Friday afternoon I was driving to go see him. As I'm getting into town, I get pulled over. One of his friends that he works with pulled me over. I had met him a few times, but I didn't know if he recognized me. He tells me that I have a warrant for my arrest over some tickets I hadn't paid ( I know how embarrassing, dating law enforcement and having traffic tickets). I'm freaking out and he says you're Gutierrez's gf right?! And I'm like YES!!! Where is he?! He then tells me that he got sent out in the county somewhere and has no phone signal. I then get handcuffed and taken away. I am then told that I need to speak to a judge to see if he'll let me go, if not I'll have to spend a night in jail. We start walking to the courthouse (I'm still in handcuffs) and when we get there, I see my FH on one knee. I don't remember what he said, I was so nervous about everything that was going on. I cried, he cried, it was the best day ever. He did a great job planning everything.

I proposed to him. It's a good story, I think, but for some reason these threads only ask for how HE proposed. :/

We went on a motorcycle ride up to my hometown...the whole ride up, I had a weird feeling he was going to propose but convinced myself he wasn't because it was Valentine's Day weekend and that would just be too typical and cheesy. Well, we ended up at one of my favorite places, the pier. We watched the sunset and then he got down on one knee and popped the question. I laughed because I had been right all along...and then I said "yes!" That was February 13...got married August 21. I told him later that if it came to our one-year anniversary (June 1) and he still hadn't proposed or said anything, I was going to give him "the speech". Been married just over two months and it's been amazing so far! Smiley smile

For our 5th dating anniversary he took us out to our favorite Italian restaurant. We usually come to this restaurant a couple times a year, on our anniversary and v day. We sat in the back and as we were eating an orchestra started to play ed sherrans "thinking out loud". He had hired a 20 person orchestra and they set up behind me without me even realizing ! He got down on one knee and proposed. He also talked to my work ahead of time and got me a few days off (without my knowledge) and rented a cabin on stevens pass ! He even got someone to baby sit our fur babies !

@Orchids @AlwaysMs I'm so sorry I didn't I include you guys in the original post! It totally slipped my mind because I was proposed to and am in a straight relationship so I wasn't being a bit selfish. My bad! I love hearing all engagement stories and I'm a fan of non-traditional proposals!

Here's an edit: What was your proposal like? Did you propose or did your FH/FW?

The first time? It's been a loooong road..... and after having been cheated on, having my kids abused and myself, and then married to a man who was bi-polar (among other things)... getting me to say yes- and not flee at the first sign of trouble, has not been easy. But I digress....

He had come out to see me after 20 years. We met when he was 19 and I was 17. It was the summer before my Senior year and I was his first love. I broke up with him shortly after our first time and subsequent pregnancy scare- which he didn't know about. Meanwhile he had bought a ring to propose... So after spending countless hours and months on the phone reacquainting ourselves, he came out for my 37th birthday that year... with a ring.

I was on WW at the time, and the ladies on here were all waiting to hear what happened that week. I'm not sure I ever told them how the actual proposal went down, cause I was kind of embarrassed... now I just wish I had the crying/laughing face!! You see, he proposed naked!! LOL He'd probably die if he knew I was telling any of you this... in the excitement to see each other, he had forgotten the ring. We had already gone to bed, when he woke me up with a bright streaming light in my face telling me to "wake up"... and "look". I was grumpy and tired, and VERY unappreciative of that light!! LOL Eventually, he got me to open my eyes though, and there he was... in all his glory... with my ring!!!
