How hot is too hot for outdoor wedding?

Chrissy, on August 20, 2015 at 12:15 PM Posted in Planning 0 38

So I am stalking the extended weather and it is saying 80 degrees for the big day. It's not accurate because its pretty far out but the trend for the week is all about the same temp. I cant really afford many more add-ons but now I'm thinking I may have to splurge and rent fans for the tent. What do you think? I am going to request a price for them also.

Is the entire event outside? Or just the ceremony?

How long of a time period would the outdoor portion be? If it's a short ceremony, I think 80 is fine. If it's the whole night, I think that would be pretty uncomfortable.

The entire event. It's in my backyard.

I love 80 degrees in a nice wedding sundress, but think of men in suits. 80 could be pretty toasty.

I think 80 is pretty comfortable for an outdoor wedding. Can you provide fans to your guests just in case they are a bit warm? You can make a program fan to kill 2 birds with 1 stone!

The weather keeps bouncing from 75 to 80 so its flirting with that "I should rent fans" line. Its a 3 pm ceremony. No cocktail hour. Reception immediately after. It ends at 8.

ETA: I already printed my programs and I only made 1 for every 2 people. They are sitting at their tables for the ceremony so I am putting them in between seats.

It depends on where you live and what whether is typical. Where I live, when we have a heat wave with 2 weeks of 110 degree whether, 90 feels super nice. I think if the typical whether is more than 80 degrees though, you should opt for an indoor wedding. We did it, and two weeks later went to an outdoor wedding. It was so hot that a bridesmaid fainted halfway through the ceremony and we were all grumpy, hot, and soaking wet from sweat.

How's the humidity where you live? If it was 80 and humid it would get uncomfortable. I would atleast look into renting fans.

I'm in PA so it will probably be humid. There is no backup plan for rain or extreme heat. It's the risk I took. Maybe I'll put out a slip and slide Smiley smile Rain I can put the walls on the tent. I figured Labor Day weekend is usually pretty nice here.

80 is fine for the ceremony but a little hot for a reception.

I think 80 is ok if it's not humid. It was 70, cloudy, and 93% humidity at 7am this morning in NJ, and that was disgusting. I'd set aside the $ for fans if the humidity is high.

Yeah I probably won't have them on during the ceremony for noise reasons but I have a feeling FH will want them there for the reception. He's a sweater. But if they are too expensive I can at least feel a little better about ruling them out. I don't think I will be staying in my ballgown all night lol.

80 would be fine for me as long as it's low humidity

ETA: we went to an outdoor wedding that was 28c this summer and while it was hot, it wasn't unbearable, at least for those who dressed for the heat. All the guys in suit jackets were sweating a lot but the couple had big buckets of bottled water for guests to take which was really good. They didn't have fans but we used the programs as fans.

If you're expecting/wanting the guys to stay in their suit jackets for the ceremony and reception, fans would be good. If you don't care if they're just in their dress shirts sans jacket, I don't think you necessarily need fans. However, you said it'll be humid so I don't really know how to judge that since here we don't get much humidity. I would probably err on the side of caution and get the fans

So fans are 25 for 30" pedestal fans and 40 for smaller ones that attach to the poles and are more discrete. Do guests mind seeing big pedestal fans? How many would I need? Its 120 people and a 40 x 80 ft tent.

ETA: The dress code for my wedding is pretty casual. Jeans and a nice shirt. The GM aren't wearing jackets and will probably change for the reception.

I'm a midwest girl so 80 for me is a great day. I'd be freaking THRILLED if it was 80 for my wedding!! I think the only issue might be if people had to be in direct sunlight but you mentioned a tent so I think you're likely ok. With a casual dress code I can't imagine this being a problem. But if where you live people are used to much colder weather then perhaps you might want to consider it.

80 is perfect for a high. It's not like it's going to be 80 in the evening during your reception

80 sucks for that long, esp with the humidity, but I attended an all outdoor wedding in 110 (it was absolutely miserable though). You need fans for sure. It didn't help 110 degrees but should help 80.

Since your dress code is so casual that helps! I was assuming men in full suits during the 3pm heat! just keep reminding folks to dress casual

Go ahead and rent fans, I don't think you will regret it!
