How important is the food you will serve?!?!

Does it really matter? We are getting married on a Friday, around 5:30p but we did not want to do heavy food. Just appetizers, hors d'oeuvres, action station and a carving station. I want people to focus in on the moment, the dancing and the fun. NOT the food and sitting at the table all night.

I guess it’s a good thing you don’t have to worry about it. FH, I and our guests that know about the arrangement are super excited about it.

Bite sized food is a great way to have variety. Just be sure you have plenty and reminded people there will be cake 😉

Geebus. It doesn't matter if you asked. It's a public forum. You suggested an idea to the bride, who will probably read your post. I provided a second alternate view of the idea derived from experience, which helps the bride see things from multiple points when making decisions. I quoted your idea, so the OP would understand where the counterpoint came from. That the entire point of these forums. The fact that you are taking it as a personal attack is asinine, no one is barring you from doing what you want at your wedding.

Food is very important for my FH and I at the wedding. We come from large families and cultures where food is central. All of our guests are also traveling in, so we will be giving them a nice meal.

If I were you I'd move the wedding to 7 if you're holding it on a weeknight. Not everyone can get from work to the venue in half an hour. I went to a 6pm wedding last summer (on a Friday night), and even though I left work early, still only caught the tail end of the wedding. The cocktail hour and reception were nice, though. If most of your guests work a traditional 9-5, be prepared for late arrivals.

It depends on the couple, for us food was THE most important factor in choosing our venue and that's because food is an integral part in both of our cultures. That being said, every couple is different and I think you should go with the vibe YOU want. Don't let others opinions sway you, unless they wanna foot the bill 😂

I agree with everyone, I can say that the food is taking up a chunk of my budget. Our families like to enjoy good food!

My girlfriend helped me out a lot in the food department. The event is at 2pm. She made sure I incorporated a cocktail hour that had heavier appetizers than what I originally planned since I decided to go with a wine bar and of course there will be a full meal since the wedding goes into dinnertime, so I had to nix some decor items to increase the food budget. I'm also adding a 'Italian Water Ice' dessert vendor. OP should be fine as long as she let's everybody know it won't be a sit down meal.

Because your wedding time is right at dinner time, you want to make sure you feed your guests a full meal. Your DJ should be able to read the mood and get the people moving. If, your main concern is not enough dancing, talk to your DJ and come up with some kind of plan.

Food is so important. We basically picked our venue based on if they could provide what we wanted for food and booze! I think with your stations, people have substantial food, but yes. There needs to be a full meal provided.

What food will be served in the action station and carving station? Those, combined with the appetizers may be enough.

We have not finalized the menu but the options are a taco bar, pasta bar or a potato bar.

The carving station was a roast beef, ham, or turkey.

And the menu for appetizers is very long as far as choices including soups.

A pasta bar may be nice for vegetarians and well, pasta-lovers. That station, with appetizers, AND a meat carving station does sound like dinner to me! Love all of the options and the interactivity all of the stations (always fun). Sounds like plenty of food.

Honestly, as a guest I would find it a little difficult to be enjoying the moment when hungry. If you are set on not serving a big meal, consider doing a cocktail only reception and moving your timeline up by a couple of hours. Prime dinner hours are between 5 and 8. Therefore, a full meal should really be served; and people will come to expect it.

Food is super important but carving stations (from what I have seen) can actually serve quite a bit of food, so I dont see a problem with this.

Food is extremely important to us! We are having our wedding in the evening so having a 5 course meal is almost a necessity as we will be hosting our affair during the peak dinner time hours (our ceremony is set to start after 6), if you are planning on hosting your wedding during dinner time, you really should consider serving a full meal because people will be expecting it. Best of luck and congratulations!
