How important is your Wedding Cake?

Porsha, on January 23, 2014 at 2:15 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 101

Ladies,

I know you have wonderful pics from pinterest and all over the web that you have been looking at to come up with a design for your dream cake LOL. I recently took my dream cake pics to a cake decorator and OMG was I in for a surprise with the cost. I am look at a cake for 150 people and it rounds off to $1000.00. I thought I had picked simple designs that would not affect the cost, smh. Let’s see you dream cake design and the amount you are looking to pay for the prefect cake? (I will post pics also...I'm at work now)

Mine will probably be the basic buttercream frosted wedding cake, with the little balls on the edge and some drape piping (No pic sorry) but getting it from a great local grocery store with a bakery and (supposedly) feeds 150 for $350, but will more likely feed my 80 guests for that price. They make super bomb cakes and FH and I was more concerned with flavor than with looks

The design was definitely not more important than having vegan cake. It has been a struggle to find a good vegan baker in Las Vegas. Since vegan cakes are more expensive, we decided to go with cupcakes and a small cutting cake. Way more affordable.

I have an idea of the type of cake I like but have not yet looked into caters. I have a few local ones in mind. I can tell you I MOST DEFINITELY will not pay $1k for a cake.

I would LOVE to see the pic of the cake you got a quote on! :-)

We have a baker that is my FH's coworker's girlfriend (say that fast 3x haha) and she is simply AMAZING. But after all the options our venue offers, we decided that we're going to exnay on it altogether.

We're going to have a small candy bar (that I'm doing, so it's still a maybe), a sweets table with fruits, assorted cakes, chocolate chip cookies and double fudge brownies with home made old-fashioned vanilla ice cream AND the venue is giving me a free s'mores station (since I really wanted it but couldn't afford the extra cost! How sweet are they?!). So after all of that, I don't want my guests having a sugar coma. haha.

Our cake was one of the few things that DH was very specific about. He doesn't really care for a lot of regular dessert, especially cake. But LOVES ice cream. So he wanted an ice cream wedding cake. Well went to our local Marble Slab and they were so great. The wife managed to create black frosting and pipe it on our cake and not have it run. Plus they threw in an extra layer of cake for no cost. Overall for our wedding cake and 2 slab cakes for our guests, plus delivery and set up....$410 to feed 150 people.

Not a big deal for me, we're not having one. We're just having a cheesecake to say we cut something.

My cake is being designed, I get sketches next week! But its super important to me that it doesn't look like a toddler's art project!

Not at all important. I'm not really a huge fan of cake, and a lot of wedding cakes I've had in the past don't even taste that good!

We're definitely doing something alternative to a wedding cake. I'm trying to convince FH to let me do donuts because they're freaking delicious.

I LOVE the idea of a cup cake bar but think it may be viewed as "tacky" or not following "etiquette".

My cake is $450 for 125 people, $100 more than I wanted to spend. This is what I am doing with a little less flowers.

Not all all important. Luckily my cake is included with our venue package, otherwise I would have had a "fake cake", and saved us some money.

We're having a Viennese dessert table so we would have just had something small to cut. If our venue's package didn't come with a multi tier cake, I wouldn't have even bothered.

I don't care much about the cake, as long as it has real

buttercream frosting. I am getting very simple ivory on ivory icing, and real flowers

scattered on it. $450 for 3-tier for 125 people.

Lemon zest cake with raspberry cream filling.

I didn't care about the cake at all. I got one because it was very important to my mom that I have a traditional wedding cake. My FH cared A LOT about the cake as well. He picked the flavors and the design. All I cared about was keeping it under $400, and making sure the flavors would be universally delicious. We ended up with a three tier cake that will look very similar to this one. The only part I'm truly excited about it our cake topper because I think it completely encompasses our love and the carefree nature of our relationship. The cake topper can be seen here: http://www.amazon.com/Willow-Promise-Topper-Susan-26189/dp/B007CKKOXE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390506250&sr=8-2&keywords=wedding+cake+topper
