Our cake wasn't super important to either of us, but was important to our parents that we at least had one. This is what ours will look like, will feed 75 for $300

I am doing cupcakes for that reason!

Less than $1 per mini cupcake and 3 per person (approx 400 total), I am way under what people charge for a little slice of dry wedding cake. Including our top teir to cut, we are looking at under $500.

It was important for us to love it, but yes i didnt want to brake the bank on our cake. I love our cake and are paying $450 for it. I think price is pretty fair.

We will have real flowers instead of the edible ones shown..

I don't like cake so it was pretty much lowest priority. My FH thinks I'm crazy. Anyway, I didn't even know wedding cake could cost that much! I knew they were expensive but didn't even check into prices, so WOW. My Aunt luckily volunteered to make ours for FREE and I accepted on the spot. She had even made a similar design recently (birch tree). My Uncle made sure to specify that we then wouldn't be getting a gift, and I was kind of insulted... as in, you must think pretty lowly of me to think I would ever expect a gift. A free cake is above and beyond! Plus it will mean so much more coming from family.

I love cake and I had to have cake. What made our cake special, we got our cake from the same bakery my belated mother got her cake from. And it was the best decision we could have made. Before setting ot to do a bunch of tastings, we settled on our top 2 flavors. So I was glad that DH chose yellow cake and my favorite flavors, lemon and strawberry- which was in both tiers. It was the best decision because everyone that came to the wedding and lunch reception- enjoyed the cake! Our original guest list was for 130 ppl, so the 2nd photo was used as our inspiration cake. But since we decided to elope, and had less than 60 guest, we chose a 2 tier cake. The original cost for the 1st choice was less than $600, but we paid less than $350.

I say keep looking if you feel that price is not a option, sometimes you can find a bakery that won't break the bank. Happy Planning!

@Jessica L. 300.00 for 75 people is just as steep as 1000.00 for 200. Thats 4.00 a slice either way. WOW!

I work at a busy bakery as a cake decorator and i can tell you its cheaper to order plain iced layers and columns, then buy sugar flowers online, and put the layers up yourself on the column stands, or on antique stands or whatever your theme is, plain iced cakes are alot cheaper

Not important, because I hate cake. I cared more about the cake stand. I wanted to do a pie bar, but my hubby did not. We ended up getting mini Bundt cakes and a small decorated Bundt from Nothing Bundt. We spent about 225.

I think 4.50 a slice is pretty standard from what I've seen.

My cake wasn't very important at all in terms of design. I wanted to it taste good. Mine was a two tiered cake covered in butter cream rosettes. Cake was included in my venue package as long as the design wasn't really over the top. it wasn't something I was interested in paying extra for.

Not important at all..I don't like cake or cupcakes or donuts. Too sweet for me. But we had a small cake at the top of a cupcake tier..got lots of compliments on how good they were..Enough for 90 guests..I believe it was around 100 dollars from what I can remember?

It was important in the sense that we had to have one, but I wasn't going to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on it. We spent just over $100 (including stand rental) for our cake which served 96 guests with some left over. I doubt everyone took cake because we had a grooms cake and cookie tables as well.

Anyway, here's a non pro pic

I loooove cake but I don't care what ours will be like. We're having a simple design with buttercream. Vanilla and chocolate layers and it's provided by the venue. We could have ordered something extravagant for an extra cost but we don't care. We're having a sweet table, a dessert AND a cake. It's all good.

I Ended up with one completely different than we had picked. MIL and I did cake tastings because hubby had to work. And we chose 4 different flavors, 5 tier cake that fed 120 and a sheet cake in the back that was another 30 people. Our family loves cake and I decorate cakes in my free time for friends and family. In not amazing but I wanted something that would wow me so I wouldn't look at the 500$ bill and say I should just do it myself.

I paid about 100$ more than I originally wanted to and 100$ more than the other bakery I looked at but the cake was so us and well worth the extra money. My MIL said I had to get it even if they paid half because me and her loved it so much. Lol... I paid for all of it and just made room in the budget Smiley smile. Lol.

Our cake comes in our package...if we want to add something we can and I'm sure that's when the cost is going to come in...im trying to stay simple and not go over 400...I'm having an open bar...I don't think we need to much sweets to mix with liquor

Zilch. I might have pie, but I am interested in the aesthetic aspect of having the cake on display. Most of our guests will be too drunk or full to care by the time its actually served. I really don't want to spend a bunch of money on it. I've budgeted $200.

Taste is important - but design not as much. We're going with a small 6 inch topper cake that will be plain white with yellow and blue ribbon along the bottom. Otherwise we're having cupcakes in 4 different flavors and aren't having the bakery do any sort of special decoration other than how they normally prepare each flavor for sale in their shop.
