How late can brunch be? Is 12:45 pushing it?

Kaye, on April 3, 2018 at 10:12 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 23

I want a brunch wedding, but we can't get into the venue until 10am. I'm trying to keep things pretty basic, but am wondering how late I can make my brunch wedding? We were originally thinking 11:45 wedding and a brunch immediately following. Can we push this back to 12:30 with brunch closer to 1245 or 1pm? Or is that just too late? I'm DIYing many things and am worried we won't be ready in time.

I'm hiring someone to set out tablecloths and centerpieces on 14-18 tables (depending on RSVPs), set up a dessert table with 6-8 pies and possibly 3 separate tiers, and place table numbers on the tables. The table delivery guys, etc will need to set up the ceremony chairs (up to 70) and set the tables. They will also need to bring in extra supplies for refreshment areas in two separate areas of the venue.

The caterer says they can be set up by noon.

I'm pretty organized and will have things set up and ready to go. I plan to decorate the outside very early in the morning. The inside will have very little decoration due to the fact that I love it's natural beauty.

We're doing a brunch wedding too! Our ceremony is starting a bit earlier- 11:30, and going straight into the reception with brunch around 12:00-12:15. It's your day, I say you can make brunch whatever time you want! Originally we were going to stick with just breakfast foods, but now we're thinking about adding some "lunch-y" options too- chicken salad sandwiches, tossed salad, something along those lines.

I think that's an okay time. Sounds like you have a good amount of food to feed your guests so the formality of the title, to me, wouldn't be that big of a deal. If it is you could always change it to just light refreshments/luncheon.

I would say anything after 12pm I personally consider lunch. No matter what type of food it is. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a later lunch with brunch foods

Sounds good to me and I agree with Kristina, call it a Wedding Luncheon.

I think it depends on your menu. If you are serving only breakfast type food you need to have it earlier in the day. If you have a few heartier lunch type items I think you can get away with eating around 12:30-ish, at the absolute latest 1 p.m.

Agree. Most restaurants around here host brunch on the weekends from about those times. The name implies it is to cover both breakfast and lunch times.

Thanks! We are serving breakfast foods, but will also be having a slider bar and salad for those wanting more of a lunch.

We are having brunch as well and our ceremony is at 12:30p with food at 1p or so. I live near two large cities and the brunches end around 2 or 3 so I think your time is good.

I think you're fine. Here brunch usually is served up until about 2 p.m. I noticed you said you will have a slider bar and salad in addition to breakfast items so I think that will work.

I live in Brooklyn which is a brunch wonderland and most restaurants serve until 3pm. I’d say 12:45 to 1pm is perfect. Plus the word luncheon doesn’t sound as fun Smiley smile

Honestly, I’m not picky or particular and if I was a guest at your wedding I wouldn’t care as long as if it is food Smiley smile

I think either way your guests will be happy and the time will fly and they probably won’t even notice it’s noon. Although, if possible maybe leave out snacks before the ceremony or during your cocktail hour if you plan on having one. People may not realize the brunch will be a little past noon and won’t prepared ahead of time and could get hungry.

I didn't realize brunch went until 3 p.m. I would think anything 12 p.m. and on is now into lunch time. I would not complain about breakfast food at any time of day though. We do breakfast for dinner all the time.

We're doing brunch too, and we've always had the mindset that brunch is whenever we feel like rolling outta bed on our day off; so 10-3pm. Most of our favorite restaurants serve breakfast that late too! We're personally thinking an 11.30 service with noon brunch, but focusing only on breakfast food. I could eat breakfast for every meal, so even if you pushed your reception till 8pm, I would still be on board! I say keep things as is; you're timeline is fine assuming your vendors can work with your timetable!!!
