How late can i leave alterations given i can't see a seamstress until just before the wedding?

I'm in Australia and am currently in lockdown due to a massive surge in COVID cases recently. Since 26 June we have been in lockdown and this will continue until September 28 if we are lucky and the lockdown is not extended further.

This means that at the very earliest I cannot begin alterations to my dress until early October and my wedding is on 12 December. I need to have the hem taken up, boning added to the bodice along with a few other things, so I anticipate the seamstress will need a minimum of about 4 weeks.

In theory I suspect that October will leave us with enough time but I am worried because I don't know if October is even feasible in the event the lockdown is extended.

For my past brides who had last minute alterations, how soon before your wedding did you have your dress altered?

Are you booked in, and/or is the dress already with the person?

The alterations don't sound too difficult, but it will depend on the construction of the dress as to how they'll do the alterations and therefore how long they need. You could also arrange a consultation online with your alterations person to see how long they think they'll need and the absolute shortest timeline that they can work with.

October should be more than enough time, most seamstress suggest 6-8 weeks to schedule the first appointment. As long as the lockdown lets up, I think you will be fine

I also think that 2 months should be enough time!! Just make sure you're on their schedule and have given them your wedding date so they can plan accordingly!
