Start shopping at 12 months before the wedding and decide on a dress no later than 10 months

So much depends on what kind of dress you want to get, where you want to get it from, and for the alterations, what you want to change about it, how busy the alterations person is, and so on and so forth. You can certainly buy a sample or off-the-rack dress from some places that you can take home on the day you go, but 12 months is a good rough guide.

Most dresses take between 6-12 months to come in, and most alterations take 1-3 months, depending on the details, as I said.

I always think, if you have longer and want to go earlier, there's nothing wrong with that! Just because you've started shopping doesn't mean you have to buy, and better to have too long than to fall in love with a dress and not have enough time to get it before your wedding date.

Don’t wait! The sooner the better as many gowns are now facing shipping delays. You don’t want to end up with your gown stuck on a ship in the ocean. If you’re worried because you’re trying to make a change before the wedding, tell the store and they can help make adjustments when ordering to prepare and help limit alterations.

Ideally 8-10 months. But the sooner the better NOW because a lot of people are getting married in 2022. Therefore, bridal shops will be busy and booked. And alterations places will be busy as well.

If you want designer I would start shopping now. I shopped 8 months out and ended up having to buy a sample because I waited so long.

Not sure about Davids Bridal- theyre more off the rack and mass manufactured. They may have shorter wait times.

Dress needs to be ordered no later than 10 months before your wedding. This allows time for the gown to be ordered, delivered, and get alterations.

I worked in bridal for three and half years, and the other commenters are right- typically 10-12 months out is best. However, while the options may be more limited (some dresses won’t be available in time) many stores would absolutely be able to get you a dress, and get alterations done, in 4-6 months. If you have the ability to go sooner, I highly recommend it, but if your wedding is less than a year or ten months out, be upfront with the store- most boutiques I know will bend over backwards to make sure you get a dress in time. Hope that helps!

Thank you Rosie, I believe you’re right. I definitely want to fall in love my dress because taking pictures is very important as well. So I definitely want time to shop and customize and alterations done for in time with out any rushes. My husband considered doing our church ceremony in 2 years from now so I believe that would be best after all.
